I'm thinking about renting a climate controlled storage room for 2 years and would like to know what some people did that worked to contain and kill these things. Basically are plastic bins better or cardboard with all the stuff in plastic bags inside, spray chemicals before storage or any recommendations on what to look for in a unit (I've never stored anything before so I'm a newbie at this) Do I need to tell the management of the unit that I may have bugs in my stuff?

Would love to hear advice on what to look for in a storage unit also.

As far as putting things in bins, we packtited a ton of stuff (books, etc) then put them in ginormo plastic tubs. We went around the rims of the tubs with cling wrap, then tape the edges of the cling wrap to the tubs with gorilla tape. If you're really going to store away for more than a year, I don't think the chemicals are necessary, the BBs will starve to death.

It was waaaaay easier and more airtight than trying to gorilla tape the lid and the tub together to make it airtight, and believe me, we tried. No matter how secure we tried to do it we ended up with pockets of air or the tape would get stuck on itself, etc.

Thanks for the tip on the tape and cling wrap, I think I will definitely be trying it. Can I get gorilla tape at lowes / home depot?

yep! can also find the cling wrap there too -- big rollers of it, by moving supplies. the gorilla tape is more expensive than regular duct tape, but super strong, so i thought it was worth it.
