Staying with relatives -- need reassurance
(2 posts)-
So I read our travel FAQ. This is how I plan to apply it in a few hours when I go stay with my relatives:
Items that I have:
1) A small fabric tote with phone, ID, etc., and a ziploc to store it in whenever I'm indoors.
2) A medium-sized ziploc bag with freshly dried clothes (like a t-shirt and pants etc).
3) Shoes I'm wearing, and a ziploc to store them in when indoors
4) What I'm wearing on my body -- my work clothes. Could not dry them completely this morning due to dryer problem. Will take them off in a train station restroom, change into clean clothes, put work clothes in ziploc, and then when I arrive at my relatives, I'll head straight into the shower after taking off shoes to put into ziploc. I'll shower first, then, take out my work clothes into the bathtub. Seal ziploc that contained them. Then pour A LOT of boiling water over work clothes.I'll minimize my cellphone use and mostly keep it in a ziploc.
I'm also bringing two pieces of paper over there that I'll have to take out from my tote and ziploc. I had carefully inspected the papers earlier, and found stains that could be fecal. But no sight of bugs. They are now in a ziploc. Are the papers ok to take out?
Is there anything that I missed? Any other precaution that I need to take?
Btw, I think not spreading bed bugs is a victory in itself.

This sounds good except for the final step with the work clothes-- can't you just keep them sealed in ziploc until you can put through a washer/dryer or just a ot dryer?
If you inspected the individual sheets of paper thoroughly, you should see any bed bugs or eggs. S those should be okay.
Bound papers are a lot trickier because bed bugs can hide more easily.
Have a good trip! Don't worry too much. Being aware of the need to take precautions goes a long way IMO.
