Okay long story short I invited someone I've been getting to know over to my place. He had his backpack with him and he set it down near a wall near my living room couch. Everything was going fantastic until he started talking about how he's been fighting a bed bug problem in his apartment for months now.

It was all I could think about while he was there, I honestly wanted to chase him out of my apartment with a broom but to be polite he stayed for about an hour and a half until I told him I was tired and he should leave. We both sat on the couch during this time watching a TV show. He did not go anywhere near my bed, and I don't have any other furniture since I just moved in a month ago.

The minute he left I took all of my clothes off and put it in a garbage bag. I also had a bed sheet over the couch previously, I put this in the garbage bag sealed it to be washed in hot water and dried for an hour. I also took a 30 minute hot shower.

I know I must sound like an insane person but I simply cannot bare the thought of dealing with a bed bug problem. Can someone tell me the possibility that I may now have become exposed? Have I taken the right steps or is there more I should do? I've checked the couch the day after and found nothing.

Also I have checked the bed bug registry site (http://bedbugregistry.com/metro/toronto/). Apparently my apartment building has NO reports, but his apartment building has several.

    Anything will help me, please!

I would buy and set up 2 Bed Bug Beacons by the sofa ASAP. Look at the FAQ's here to learn how to inspect your sleeping area. I would also recommend some type of climb up monitor on your bed frame, that is if you can place them under the legs of the bed.

If you move quickly to isolate the bed and setup the beacons ... you may catch something and end it right then and there. Or you monitor and find nothing because there is nothing. Go to http://www.usbedbugs.com for the items you need.

Okay, thanks so much KillerQueen, I'm in Canada so I looked up some stores near by that sell beacons and I'm going to pick some up. I think I'll also be renting a steamer from Lowe's or something just to steam that sofa. I feel dirty now just being in apartment. I hope there really is nothing.
