Dr. Coby Schal, an entomologist from NCSU, has been awarded a grant to further develop a bedbug baiting system. I know there are some monitors/systems out there now that are not 100% effective, but let's keep our fingers crossed that he and his researchers make a breakthrough.

Not sure how long this link will work, but here he is on their local news: Here

Thought I'd share some news that wasn't negative.

Sounds interesting. Lets hope it´s an invention that will work in real life environments then, so its not only a labproduct. Sounds promising at least!

Most of all, I like the fact that more and more research seems to be done lately. Some competition and prestige between universities in this area of research might also mean more money awarded. Hopefully it means a little competition makes up for a better chance and quicker way of finding great solutions.

There are a number of good looking research directions, funding is the problem.

I wanted to post a recent news story that has an interview with Dr. Schal, hinting about his "bait system" research:

    http://www.wral.com/lifestyles/healthteam/story/9986855/

Check out the video near the bottom of the page. Around 1:30, they show a quick experiment, where the bugs rush to the top of a jar to feed through a "skin-like membrane." I'm sure there's a significant time lapse they cut out, but I found it encouraging, to say the least.

Me and a friend were talking (and drinking) last night and the discussion of bed bugs came up and we try to joke about it since we joke about everything and I'm battling them now and she battled them a year ago and she mentioned at the time she wished they made Revolution for humans. Anyone who doesn't know what Revolution is it's a flea medication (pill form) for animals. You give it to them and the fleas bite them and die. Can someone please invent this "magic bullet pill" for humans to take to rid the bed bugs from their life? Thanks in advance!

    No apology required, blargg!

I posted in the forums about the blog article too (as I usually do to alert people to new stories), but it had fallen "down" in the table of recent posts.
