Do these bed bug sniffing dogs really work?

Where can you buy one of these dogs?

Consumers don't buy the dogs. They pay for a trained PCO dog-handler to come sniff a dwelling. The dogs, I have heard, have 90+% accuracy. They must be cared for by a trained expert who can keep the dog trained. You can do some searching to learn more.

    Little Bugger,

    Your own website says,

    Canine detection:

The use of a dog to sniff out bed bugs not a completely proven system to deal with bed bugs

    .

Your comment here implies you want to learn about bed bug k9s, whereas your own website implies you have knowledge of them already. Which is true?

I guess I am curious about your purpose here and your flurry of advice-giving this weekend.

    What is your problem?

Every time I come on to your forum you immediately criticize everything I say.

Do you have a problem with me or my web site?

I know you run this forum but I am tired of this now.

You are slandering me by saying I do not know about bed bugs.

If you read my web site you can see that I do know about bed bugs.

I have all the qualifications and have attended every major UK bed bug and pesticide training course there is.

After all is said and done I see quite a few people on this site making themselves out to be demigods.
You are just pest control guys spraying a room for a frigging insect don't let it go to your heads.

And yes I came on line to be part of the bed bug pest control community and if I can get a few back links what is the harm. I am sure there are many people on this site giving advice and getting back links.

I do not claim to be the world authority on bed bed bugs but I doubt anyone on here is either.

People give free advice and most forums they take your message off or harass you just like here.

It is human nature some little guy whose only claim to fame is that he can give you a back link every time you post a message. And when you post a message he harasses you and slanders you.

I am not a cowboy and I have never had a complaint regarding my work, not one.
Apart from some spelling mistake on my web site when I was learning to design my site.

    WHAT HAPPENED TO FREE SPEECH?

I thought your forum was in the land of the free?

    It's a bloody dictatorship.

    Hi,

Like many forums there is an AUP (acceptable user policy) which professionals in particular are requested to read.

For what of a better word this forum and website and blog are a labor of love to help others. Lots of people give freely of their time and professionalism.

I to would query why you posted that question given that you provide a service and one would assume you have already had time to evaluate the role of K9 scent detection as a tool for pest control.

This forum does allow for free speech but at the end of the day you post appears to be potentially outside of the AUP which is why you may have been criticized on this occasion.

At the end of the day if you are here to offer support and accurate advice I am sure you will be welcomed although from the response above I am sure you don't want to hang around much.

    Warmest regards,

    David Cain

    Littelebugger,

Your original comment above implies ignorance on a topic your website implies you know something about. I specifically quoted your website to illustrate this.

So yes, I questioned the purpose of your post because it's pretty obvious you're here just for the "back links" and your more recent post implies this too.

Most forums don't use "do follow" links. People who come here just to rack up links make me not want to do so either.

Professionals who genuinely want to help others by responding to questions are welcome to participate. If you came just to promote your website, and you won't be the first, please move on.

I have edited my post above for greater clarity.

If you look at my site (not a plug) then you will see on my 'treatments' page I write

'Canine detection: The use of a dog to sniff out bed bugs not a completely proven system to deal with bed bugs.'

So this proves that I have not investigated or formed an opinion on canine detection yet.

I feel I also have given good advice to people on this site.

I am a professional with bed bugs services just like most people here and I have a right to air my views until you remove my account.

I see david cane (bed-bugs.co.uk) has to jump in and have a go at me to. It has nothing to do with him.

David said 'This forum does allow for free speech but at the end of the day you post appears to be potentially outside of the AUP which is why you may have been criticized on this occasion.'

Yeah like when you put a littlebugger ipod link on this site so that the ipod link on google will rank higher than mine. That's not very AUP either?

How can a quote be outside of free speech, it is either free speech or none free speech. You define parameters of free speech, therefore it is not free speech. You should work for big brother, 'double speak'. 'Freedom is slavery'.

But I honestly feel I am being bullied by the both of you and I am glad David interrupted the concern I publicly aired with bugsomme. It highlights this.

I can not write anything on this site without criticism from either of you.

I you want to remove my account I don't care anymore.

Actually, no. Instead, it suggests you already have some basis on which to say "it's not a completely proven system."

In any case, if you want to discuss canines with professionals, please go to the Official K9 Industry thread (you can find it later in the GREEN STICKIES at the top of the main page).

Yeah like when you put a littlebugger ipod link on this site so that the ipod link on google will rank higher than mine. That's not very AUP either?

I think you're referring to this thread. As I noted here,

I also do not think that [David's] linking to a game with the same name as your business is harming your reputation or your site's SEO. If you have a claim on a trade name, it seems like you can take that up with the game manufacturer.

As for your comments about "free speech," there are guidelines for participating in this site. I am not a lawyer but I understand that the laws in the US protect a person's right to free speech (within the bounds of the law) on their own websites. This does not mean you can write whatever you want on a website operated by someone else.

As you note, I could ban you. That I haven't done so yet suggests I am trying to create a space for open dialogue.

I apologize if I misjudged your comment above.

However, my point stands: if you have something to add to the conversation, add it. But please don't post just to get "back links." It's an abuse of the site and won't be tolerated.

And if someone disagrees with one of your statements, as happened in this thread, please consider engaging with the message rather than simply attacking the source.

@Littlebugger I am sorry if you construed what I said as "having a go at you" I was attended to be advice from one professional to another on the subject of not only getting the best out of the forum yourself but also how to help others.

As for SEO it simply does not work that way. I think you may be mistaken into thinking that the reason why I am top of all the UK search engines related to my postings in this forum. It does not, my SEO index is in fact derived from the fact that I am linked and quoted from all the major UK news outlets and many of the professional bodies as well as a number of medical organisations who all value the information that we have put online for both its originality and clarity.

I am certainly not intending on bullying you, I strongly believe that business stand or fall based on the information they put out via their websites and how they conduct themselves. Having received a call from you some time ago offering your domain for sale I had honestly thought you were no longer in business.

All that aside on the OP. I recently attending the first working group for the generation of standards for bedbug dog use in the UK and the bedbug foundation will be producing these as part of its code of best practice. Thankfully all those in attendance agreed with the need for visual confirmation as a standard as well as ongoing training and certification requirements. It will take a few months for them to be finalized but they will be well worth looking at.

    Regards,
