Sleep Number Mattress(3 posts)
I have bed bugs and have a sleep number mattress. Naturally, this matters has a hose running from the pump to the bed. My concern is not the pump, air hose, etc. being a hiding place for bed bugs. Although anythings possible...
My concern is when the mattress encasing is in place: I have to run the hose through it to reach the bed. This creates a hole in the casing. How do I close this hole? Is Duct tape okay?
You should be able to use a number of things.
1. Would be weather stripping adhesive from 3M.
2. Would be fabric- Tac from Beacon Adhesives.
3. Would be latex silicon.
These are more permanent then duct tape so determine if you need to remove the hose regularly.
Hi there. My name is Stephanie and I work as a member of Select Comfort’s online customer service team. I am happy to address any concerns you may have about bed bugs in relation to the Sleep Number bed. Select Comfort manufactures and sells new bedding that is made to order. Each new bed was constructed prior to shipment, and was made from all new materials. We are able to sell you new parts to replace those that you and your doctor believe have been affected by the bed bugs. We do recommend checking with an exterminator. While taping up the holes where the hoses go into the bed will not harm the mattress cover, this is not recommended, as it will not resolve the bed bug infestation.
Bed bug infestations normally seem to arise from nowhere. The bugs are efficient hitchhikers and are usually transported in on luggage, clothing, furniture, etc. Outbreaks can often be traced to international travel from countries where the bugs are common, such as Asia, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, or Central/South America. This is a particular issue for hotels, motels, and apartments, where turnover of occupants is constant. Bed bugs are small, cryptic and agile, escaping detection after crawling into suitcases, boxes, and belongings. The eggs are almost impossible to see when laid on most surfaces. Purchase or rental of secondhand mattresses, box springs, and furniture is another way that the bugs are transported into previously non-infested dwellings.
The nice thing about Sleep Number beds is that you are able to replace components of the bed, should you have a bed bug infestation, versus having to replace the whole bed, as you would have to with an innerspring mattress. You are also able to open the Sleep Number bed to vacuum and clean it, which is a huge advantage.
