Site update: bear with me!
(29 posts)-
Hi All,
Sorry the site looked a bit funky today. Should be back to normal soon. will explain more later.
-
Functionality being added back as we speak...
-
Don't adjust your set. We're still the same forum. I am still adding things back, but:
What do you think of the forums layout?
-
Okay, so I freaked out when I couldn''t log in. I am officially addicted
I really like the new layout, very nice! -
Bitten, can you tell me how long you were unable to login? And when you were able to again?
-
And just so everyone knows: the site did not go down because I wanted to redecorate. :-p
I had to make some changes to the software for security reasons. This necessitates upgrading the template, so I just chose a different one to start with this time.
I am adding back functionality and ads and other things you are used to, one by one, making sure it all works.
-
I don't know if it's just me, but no where can I find any way to PM anyone. And when I sign on it used to say how many PMs I had, now it doesn't even do that. hmm...
-
No, you can't PM anyone right now. There was an important reason the software needed to be updated.
I am still restoring functionality, so please bear with me.
-
PM functionality is back
-
Nobugs, it was around 10:15 am thru about 12:00 CST or so I think. What it would do is every time I tried to login, it would refresh the page and not log me in. I thought at first it was my password was wrong, so I reset my password but it still wouldn't log me in.
It is working fine for me now. -
If anyone can't login (and hopefully is still reading this), you need to expunge your cookies in your browser security or privacy settings.
The latest status is that PMs are working. The link to get your messages is on the main page at top right, under "Hello, <your name here>" and the login link.
"Quote" in posts is not yet working, even though you see the link. I am trying to fix it.
I apologize for the inconvenience. A few more weird things may happen if I am testing or deactivating something temporarily, but just try again in a moment or so and it should pass.

All the posts that are about a paragraph get cut off... including past posts from a few days ago...
The writing is very tiny... yet its still a great site!
-
Hi Bugboy,
Could you please be more specific about what you're looking at? Maybe send me a specific link to a specific post?
I am not seeing cut off paragraphs or tiny writing. I need to know where to look. Could be a browser issue I suppose.
Thanks!

Just a reminder: if anyone is having trouble like BugBoy911 describes, PLEASE send more information about what you're seeing, exactly where you're seeing it. Also please tell me your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 3, etc.). All web browsers do not deal with all websites the same way. I can't necessarily see what you see.
I really do want to make sure everything is working fine!
One note: you may have trouble logging in with your normal username and password-- if you have not done so since the appearance of the site changed. Try clearing the cookies in your web browser (Preferences -->Privacy or Security in most browsers). This should fix the problem and let you login.

Hi Nobugs, I've noticed the 'cut-off text' as well, seems to be on all the pages (including this one). Any paragraph or text longer than 4 or 5 lines just gets cut off.
-
me again - here's one page http://bedbugger.com/forum/topic/please-help-want-to-kill-zombie-bugs. the first entry (the only one) just ends after 3 lines?
I use Explorer by the way, forgot to mention that in my last post. AND it's not all posts either, even on this site update page, Bitten's message is fine but one of yours (about the PM) is cut short even though Bittens is longer?
-
Save some grief if using Firefox, maybe the same can be done in IE but I seldom if ever use it.
Go to tools, options, privacy, cookies, and show cookies. Just delete the folder of bedbugger cookies and I was able to log in without wiping all.

problem is, everyones advice to fix problem is getting 'cut off'.
-
Running Firefox I see the whole post. No cutoffs here.

Ah HA! Yes, just downloaded firefox and it works beautifully.
Thx Jim!
-
Thanks, losing it. Which version of IE? I want to fix it since everyone can't use Firefox.

Hi,
Just a quick comment to say great work so far.
Very pleased to see the search feature at the top. Can I request it is coloured the same as the stickies to draw the eye up there (OK I can wait for it).
Love the new interface on the PM's, I have to say that because of the way my eyes focus I cant read massive blocks of text that well and still follow the gist. Being able to structure a PM and read what others write with the same formatting will make reply without asking people to email me at work a lot easier.
I give this skin a big two thumbs up.

nobugs: I think it's IE version 6.0.
The whole site looks great by the way, very 'clean' and open looking!
-
Thanks, losingit. Having the information makes solving the problem possible.
Maybe someone (anyone) can comment on whether PMs and forum posts are being cut off in Internet Explorer 7?
Firefox does seem to be fine, but some people are logging on from jobs or schools where IE is the only allowed browser. It would help to know if IE 7 is ok.
Thanks!
-
Thanks David and Losingit, for your compliments. If we can get this skin working for everyone, it will stay.
-
Very nice, Nobugs! Very nice, indeed. I really like the navigation at the top with the faqs smack in the middle. Just wanted to drop a note and say thanks for your hard work.
-
Thanks, hopelessnomo!
And welcome back!!! We missed you around here.
Have wanted that navigation system for a while.
Themes for this software with adaptable nav. menus are few and far between. I hope we can make this one work for everyone soon.
-
Using IE 6 - should I just upgrade? I need my BB fix.
-
Honestly, until i can fix it, your best option is Firefox. If you are free to install it, why not?
I cannot speak to IE7, maybe someone else can confirm it's fine. But the latest Firefox DEFINITELY works, and it's a great free option for most people.
(Exceptions: you are at work and your IT won't allow it because they are control freaks and think IE is good.)
