Single bug?(3 posts)
Here are the facts -
I rent an apartment that I've been in for 18 months with no bed bug issues.
I have gotten the telltale bites two nights in a row.
Tonight (night 2) I woke up with bites again, and inspected my bed. I found no casings or blood stains in the crevasses of my mattress. However I did find a bug that had obviously just fed, and I grabbed it and put it in a ziplock bag.
I have no new furniture or bedding, and my mattress was new when I bought it.
I live in Denver, which is known for bedbugs, and has been having record breaking heat for a week.
I guess my question is - could I have just picked up that one bug somewhere? 18 months in this apartment with no issues and then 2 nights of bites in a row makes me suspicious. Should I notify my landlord?
If you have a bug, you have a problem. How big I can't say, but I would let them know so that you start to do something to resolve it.
Realistically, I'd say it's unlikely it's by itself. There's also the possibility that your neighbors have an infestation that is on the move.
I decided to suck it up and tell my landlord. Thankfully, she seems pretty receptive (although she did make me "prove it" by showing her the bug, I'm SO glad I thought to keep it), and I'm getting sprayed early next week. I know that a 4 day wait time isn't that long, but I'm going crazy knowing they're in there. I haven't slept in 3 nights because every time I start falling asleep, I think about how they're waiting to bit me. Between that and my existing bites, it's sheer misery.
