Unfortunately for me, I live in an old building where most of the apartments are NOT well sealed off from each other. I'm also on the top floor and since fumes rise, I get it all whenever anyone treats their apartment. All I have ever asked from this exterminator is that he warn me before he treats anybody in my building. He has NOT complied and as a result, I was made so sick three times already that I nearly wound up in the hospital. I have Hep C and my liver can not tolerate these toxins. Now really - I do not expect anybody to live with bed bugs. I myself react real bad to the bites and I would not wish it on my worst enemy - that they would have to live like that. But for goodness sake, is it asking too much for a little consideration - to be warned? And does anybody know the laws regarding this or how I could find out what the laws are? Thanks.

Do you have a housing court or housing authority you could contact? A municipal health department? If you have a disability or are a senior, there are other agencies that can help, too, and you should call them all in to solve this. If you get the name of the PCO firm treating your building, could you send them an official sounding fax or letter and CC a lawyer or even CC a public defender's office or housing office ? This kind of request for notification of pesticidesmust be fairly common since there are so many people now who are immuno-suppressed due to illnesses and chemotherapy. Shame on them for ignoring your request to be notified when they are going to treat. Could it be residents self-treating?

Perhaps someone who works in NYC as a pest pro could clue us in as to what the notification laws are re: pesticide use.

I've had similar concerns, not from other apartments, but my own!! We've been fumigated 13 times (they didn't end up spraying on the 14th visit -- after a long inspection, deemed that there definately wasn't any activity). But all those poisons being pumped into our apartment can't be good us.

I have nightmares about cancer or deformed grandchildren...

I can't even watch the movie "Erin Brockovich" anymore!

I don't know if many people now here know it, but the reason I took the name "Parakeets" here is truly bedbug related--my parakeets (and all the parakeets in our building) died after we were treated by pesticides. We were told to keep the animals out of the building overnight after the treatment. I waited even longer. I think the treatment guidelines they gave us for pets were actually for cats and dogs. Birds are far more sensitive. After that the management changed our lease to say that we could no longer have any small birds in our building so they must have known.
