To Buggyinsocal, come baaaack!! You have been idle for the past six months, but I find your previous posts most insightful, helpful and closest to my situation (being in Socal, same building type, same treatment, etc). If anyone is in the LA area and are considering heat treatment, check out her posts! I hope you log in again one day and find this, you are mucho appreciated!
Also to my emotional support group: blackheart, feelinghelplesswith3babies, Kass, Theyareoutthere, and others on that string of thus far 230 replies! I know I don't participate as much, but I am a voyeir (sp?), and have enjoyed your psychological and ongoing daily updates emensely! I talked to my therapist about bedbugs, and immediately fired her when she told me I shouldn't tell anyone and that I'm over reacting. Maybe I am, maybe we all are, but I am so much more grateful now that I'm so much more "aware" even though I may seem paranoid and OCD to the rest of the world now. Anyway, I feel as if we are all in "BB school" together and will graduate with honors in no time...and one day be labeled "old timers"! lol.
To our "professors" Nobugs, P Bello, David Cain, Killer Queen. You have been most instructional and tireless in your ongoing education to all of us "newbites". I don't know how you stick it out and put up with all of us over the years, but you do and there really isn't anywhere, even on the infinite world wide web, quite like this forum. I'm very happy you invented it, even when you tell us things we don't want to hear or things that spook. It's always with good intention and for our own good and for awareness.
Anyway, it's 2 am, need to get to sleep (on the trusty ole air mattress), a little inebriated, just wanted to share my love. The battle continues!
-
PS, Nobugs, A.) Do you EVER sleep? and B.) what's your original story? why did you start this site? What was your sitchy? You have soooo many posts, I can't go that far back. Just curious.
-
Bedbugly, thanks! I like your school analogy, and pray we will all graduate "with honors" soon!
And thanks for your sense of humor - your first post on our moral support thread was hilarious and made me laugh, which nowadays, is hard. Also, your therapist - ugh. So glad you fired her! -
Don't forget about our professors Loubugs and EffeCi they help tech us to correctly identify bedbugs and other unwanted pests.
-
Bedbugly - thank YOU for starting the moral support thread. I don't know where I would be without it. And like Kas said, you have a great sense of humor throughout all of this.
As for your ex-therapist, what an ass! At first I was afraid to tell my friends, but lately I've been pretty open about it, and figure the least I can do is educate them. All of them have been very supportive and understanding (well, as understanding as one can be who has not had to go through this).
And I'd like to hear Nobugs story as well!
-
Its official I only stick around for the odd chance to charge something Mr James's expense account and because someone once offered to feed my coffee addiction.
I will only go when someone comes with an AI I can download to and let it deal with things in by absence.
Not read the support thread, I generally avoid the emotive ones and my inbox / life has been rather full of recent.
David
-
Sorry David, I am guilty of sending one your way myself very recently.
Thank you to all from me too. -
Great thread! I have also benefitted from Buggyinsocal's insights and excellent writing.
I'd like to add my thanks and gratitude to St. Nobugs and everyone on the forum too. Hugs to Nobugs and all the pros mentioned above: Paul, KQ, EffeCi, Lou, Sean, plus Doug, Ken, The Davids, as well as regular contributors (TAOT, Cilecto, + Koebner are on my shout out list among others)
And most especially David Cain. Although mentioned above, he deserves his own line on my shout-out list. Thank you so much for all your help. : )
You guys are all rock stars in my book.
<3, Mindover

Thank you all again yes the emotional ones are hard but that's how these critters make us feel. Wow a bug creating comotion and lots of emotion lol. Thank you all for everything. Always I would not know how to deal with this had it not been for this forum and all the new friends from our moral support thread . I don't care what people think I will inform anyone and everyone what I'm experiencing if it means they will be.more aware. Shoot my neighborhood has them everywhere to the point the local discount store will be selling bed bug medicine.....cracks me up bed bug medicine. I'm gonna make a pamphlet out of all the info on here to educate all my neighbors. They need it asap. Thank you again.from the bottom of my heart
-
I really learned a lot from Buggyinsocal, too. I've always been amazed that she traveled and no one else got them. She's a great writer.
I think the "sharing" thread is a great one..it's almost a success one...you hear about people freaked out and then it's 14 days without a page later...it will be good for people to read.
-
Hey Theyareout .... you are so supportive, nevermind other threads, since I have been here, you have made me feel a lot better, you also have a good sense of humour, something we all need to try to hold onto at times like these
So thanks!
Much appreciated!

paul b.Yeah Paul
Was never much of a drinker myself, but I gotta say these friggin bastards will drive you to it!
Bye the way, I really appreciate and enjoy your posts, hey the only good thing that resulted from these God Forsaken creatures!
Please tell me you have a magic potion that will cure us all

Blackheart,
That is so nice of you! You can just feel the fear/anxiety from some of the new posts. If I'm up late at night working on a project, I can at least say "hi" and the experts will be back in the morning.
With your line of work and this experience, I think it will make you so much more emphathatic to those in need. Sounds like you are kind, but...unfortunately...you now know how this can impact the whole premise of one's life. Not to be overly dramatic (I'm not crying, Paul!!!!
I like to tease Paul), but they are just bugs. But, unlike skeeters and roaches, they are invading your bed and leaving you uncomfortable all day. Skeeters and roachers carry diseases, but these bugs are traumatic for a lot of people.Take care! Thanks again!
TAOT
-
Thanks Theyare, yeah life has been truly traumatic lately, My God, just put a revolving door on my apartment, threw ex out (who was a garbage picker, actor wannabe) and then the previous bf crying cause he had no place to stay (I said NO) and mounting bills due to that dumb-ass, life is great eh. ah well can only go UP from here!
-
It's got to get better, Blackheart. Stay strong.
I know you might not thing this is funny now, but reread sometime the thread when you first started where you talk about throwing out your garbage (your ex boyfriend)..and Nobugs says don't throw things out in the garbage because your neighbors might take it home...and then you say..they can keep that piece of garbage...and Nobugs says "no, the bedbugs may come back to you" and your response was "huh". Nobugs (and I had to read it twice) thought you were throwing things out in the garbage.
Breakups suck. Hope you heal quickly!!!
-
Thanks for the kind words, yeah breakups suck, but hey, thats the last one for me, if nothing else bbs have eased my heartache evil
As stupid as that sounds its because all I care about right now is a clean, bb free home, and free of the 6 foot rat (my ex)
He was a rodent in every sense, God I am laughing as I type this, I must be either going insane or recovering, no sure ATM, anyways this site has really helped and thanks to all!

You guys are great !
Truth is, right now I'm drinking a sprite, must be the "limon", mmmm !
Was gonna try a shock top belgian but, after cleaning up after my neighbor's puppy and the two cats; picture this: two large black cats, two litter boxes and a pit bull puppy about 40 lbs.
Well, Daisy decides it would be fun to "dig" in the two litter boxes. What she's excavating across the tile floor is sticking into the generous puddles of pee she deposited previous to her soil mechanics. Nice ! So, there's a combo meal of cat crap & dog pee garnished nicely with kitty litter. And, to top it all off, this is my neighbor's daughter who just moved into the basement apartment after her brutal break up, most of the stuff is in boxes and there's nothing to clean up with except paper towels and a pump spray of 409. Awesome huh !
WHile I guess it's bewtter to fdind out your fiance is a dick before the wedding; you know what a 24 yo single girl doesn't need? A new effing puppy ! ! !
And, you know what I need? A friggin head transplant for volunteering to do this cause they went to Chicago to visit family ! ! !
Ohmmmmm, Ohmmmm, Ohmmmm.
There, I'm better now. Have a nice nite ! paul b. : )
(thought I'd share my slice of life for tonight with y'all )
-
LMAO. You guys are hilarious. Thanks for the laughs. Poor you Mr.B cleaning up that mess with only paper towels. Might need to pour yourself another after that one. "Limon" If your talking about Bicardi Limon mmm thats my favorite.
-
No, it was just a friggin sprite (you know, with the "limon") but, I'm sure I deserve something a tad more potent by now !
By the way, you know what paper towels don't have?
Handles.
So, if you're cleaning puppy piss off the floor with paper towels and spray 409, you gotta be "all in" effort wise.
At least the cat pucks could be lifted with the kitty litter tool thing.
But, the litter stuck to the floor with puppy pee had to be scraped off the tile.
And, think of the smell. Ummm, gooood !
You walk in there and it smells like a dog pissed in your nose.
Nice !
Have a good night ! paul b.
-
[By the way, you know what paper towels don't have?

That and the Tang and Tonic really made me roll! I'm sure you have some industrial filter /gas mask with all the DE you probably handle, P Bello, put it to another use! Lol. Didn't know they still even made Tang! My mom's drink was MY Koolaid as a kid and vodka. We went through ALOT of Koolaid! Have a good night folks! I love you all! The vacuum is calling.....
-
Ok if the bed bugs dont kill me you guys will, I have asthma, and laughed so hard I was gasping for air... so thanks for that
-
Question: So What twitches and lays in the bottom of the ocean....
Answer: A nervous wreck! lol
-
OK, now I'm laffin.
I didn't mean Tang the fake oj crap that the astronauts supposedly drank, I meant Tanqueray as in gin !
You know, in the green bottle, the stuff with the alcohol in it !
Like in: I'll have a Tanqueray & Tonic with lime, in a tall glass.
Who would drink Tang with tonic???
Now that's funny ! Luv ya's all ! : )
-
Lol blackheart. In glad everyone is laughing. Lawd knows we need to.... Paul bello. You might wanna try some oso negro I'll mail you some when I go tog Mexico in Sept. That Will aid you on your infinite volunteer.
-
OK, thanks !
-
TAOT,
That is a funny exchange, in retrospect. Well, I was aware that Blackheart was talking about her ex, but she also had been talking, I think, about decluttering and throwing things out, and I didn't want that important point to get lost.
Bedbugly and Buggyinsyracuse,
The short version is, I experienced bed bugs.
Back when there were no Packtites!
And when the only bed bug monitors were glue traps made for rats!
And when many PCOs had not even treated a case, and so many more of them were clueless than now.
When you couldn't get heat treatment in NYC.
When panicked people were trying to buy ancient DDT from dodgy individuals on the internet, thinking it would be a solution.
When people generally -- from PCOs and landlords to newscasters and even, sometimes, university fact sheet writers -- were so much more horribly misinformed than they are now that word has gotten around more, mostly thanks to the efforts of the experts who so tirelessly try and set everyone straight.
("When I was your age sonny, I had to walk seven miles to school, barefoot, in the snow!" No, seriously: while we still have a way to go, we have come a long way since the dark ages of the current bed bug crisis.)
Anyway, I experienced some of the great bed bug clichés: misdiagnosed by a doctor as having scabies and given treatment for that condition (which I had a bad reaction to), sharing a home with a man who does not react and thinks I am a hysterical female, told by my building management the way to treat bed bugs is to simply toss out the bed, and on and on.
There were a few good bed bug bloggers at the time, just people writing about their experiences, and there was a Yahoo group where Lou Sorkin was a font of wisdom. But mostly there were a lot of confused people, including me.
I started the website in 2006 to host a few FAQs because there was so much garbage information out there. Within a day or so, I realized I wanted to comment on news stories, which were few in number at the time. It was really at the point where people were just starting to talk about this, and most news stories had poor information in them, and they needed correcting.
So then it was a blog with FAQs.
But the best thing then and now was the community. There were a few other people writing for the blog at the time and you'll see their names in early blog posts and a couple of the FAQs: Jessinchicago, Parakeets, and Bugzindahood were the first.
And then people started using the comments on all the blogged news stories to tell their stories and ask questions. I was on a web host that would not support a forum, so in lieu of one, I would post special blog entries just for people to tell their stories and seek help in the comments.
Some of the experts and pros were participating on the site even back then (Lou Sorkin was the second person to create an account on the site, after me. And I think Winston O'Buggy and Sean Rollo were around back then too. David Cain found us pretty quickly too).
And then in the start of 2007, I moved to a new web host and started the forums.
Anyway, that's more about my "baby" website than about me, but I hope it fills in a few blanks. I don't have any background in entomology (or even science generally -- which is probably painfully obvious) nor any connection with the pest control industry except that I now run bed bug-related ads to keep the site running.
-
Wow thanks for sharing
-
Nobugs,
Are you able to share how you solved your BB problem, considering knowledge and resources were different then? Did you end up moving? Did PCO's treat with chemicals or DE? Did you use any DIY methods? How long before you were in the clear?I understand you do not want to share many specific details that might identify you ....I understand the desire to be anonymous. However it would be interesting if there were any treatment details you could share.
And this thread was very refreshing..... Made me smile. And also realize that while Paul may not have bed bug issues, he has his own messes to contend with, just like the rest of us! Ha ha!
Raising a glass to all you BB warriors!

Sorry, I can't really go into detail (sorry that sounds cryptic but it really is hard to stay anonymous when I start going into any amount of detail).
But I will say that there's nothing about my experience which is worth emulating. It was a long time ago. The tools and resources and knowledge we have today are just so much better.
-
Bugzindahood! What a glorious nickname or whatever you call it now-a-days! Wish I had thought of something so clever! Nobugs, you sure are good at keeping it cool and underwraps, I like your mysterious ways. I even had no idea you were a girl! I imagined a 30/40 somethings professor looking guy! haha. Probably because you are the gate-keeper, guide, and voice of reason on this here wonderful site, I pictured a very wise looking dude, and it's even better now knowing that gal power and determination started it all. However you managed to rid yourself of these little buggers, even though you can't elaborate, it is certainly inspirational given your limited resources at the time and that you DID IT!
-
I always thought Nobugs had heat treatment (I'm running on the door and only skimmed..will read in full later).
This site must be an incredible amount of work. I'm on late nights sometimes and you will see 10 spammers. Paul may have to clean up dog stuff, but this internet stuff is just as messy..
Sadly, I knew what Paul meant by Tanq & Tonic...
-
Oh, my, so glad I got back to reading this thread. Y'all have me cracking up.
Nobugs - what a fascinating story. Thank you so much for caring about others that are in the situation that you were in. Most people would have just been happy that their ordeal was over and moved on. Bless you for being such a caring soul.
Paul - I'm a whiskey kind of gal myself. And let me tell you, if the following things are on the stock market we should all start investing: booze, trashbags, rubbing alcohol, double sided sticky tape, mattress encasements, packtites, bb monitors. Come on folks, what am I forgetting? We'd be rich.
-
Hi buggyinsyracuse,
Sadly the good products come out of small independent companies who do not trade their stock on the open market although I once joked with Mr James about putting in an offer for PackTite (the valuation kept growing faster than I could recruit investors).
However as an ex investment analyst in the city of London I can assure you that the only ones who win on the markets are the reinsurance companies who hold about 80% of all shares traded. About 20 firms who even the Illuminati are scared of.
David
-
David - considering the traffic this site gets, they'd probably get a better IPO than Facebook!
-
Yep, reinsurance is taking a hit with US farming/drought, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, and other natural disasters..and it's a drop in the bucket. I always meant to do more research on the impact of 9/11, but I heard they had managed those odds.
At any rate, we are very glad that Mr. Cain left the bloody world of finance. I'm trying to figure out if I could handle pest control (just joking..I'm squeamish).
People complain about the prices of the products, and they are high. But, the risk must be exponential or the larger firms would be doing it. As someone pointed out, the profit for pests is in the ag industry and that's always where the first $$$ will go to. Am I recollecting correctly?
-
Hey, David, since we're on the subject of products, been meaning to ask you, have you has a chance to try/test that Zappbug oven yet? Just curious of the results when you do. Thanks!
