My husband is going to a conference at the Phil Hilton airport hotel. I was going to go along with the kids, but I searched and tripadvisor has one review mentioning BB and the bedbug registry has 4 recent reports of BB plus a management response (which didn't make me feel any better). Am I overreacting? Is bedbug registry credible? I guess the manager wouldn't have responded if it were a totally obsure site, right? We haven't had any BB in our home yet, but I know that lots of hotels, esp in the NE have had infestations. If I stay at home with the kids, my husband will still probably go. Advice please.

Bed bug registry is a self-reporting website, but with four reports, I would assume there are bed bugs at the hotel. If it were me, I would avoid going. Since your husband has to go, I would take a look at the FAQs and read up on how to prevent bringing bed bugs back home with you after traveling.

There's a faq about how to avoid bed bug when you travel, and another on how to avoid bringing bed bugs home if you encounter them here:

It is probably better to be aware that there are bed bugs and take precautions than to think you are going to a hotel that doesn't have bed bugs. Even if a hotel was bed bug free last week, someone could have stayed there with bed bugs and it could now have them. Hopefully the hotel management chain has called this particular hotel manager's attention to the postings about bed bugs and are making sure something is being done. It's worse when no one says anything since then no one does anything.
