Seriously, I had to get medication for stress
(6 posts)-
After becoming suspicious that we might have bedbugs (still not confirmed), I have really been a mess. It was all I could think about day or night. I could barely function at work or at home. After a while I went to my doctor and explained to him what was going on. I didn't have any obvious bites at the time but I described a weird one I had had, and he didn't deny that it could have been a BB bite but he said it also could have been a spider bite. I explained to him about the way I was obsessing and stressing about the whole thing, and he ended up prescribing a medication for stress. It seems to be helping some.
I know some people have strong beliefs and feelings about the medications they take, and I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. I'm just saying that for me, for now, this was what I needed to do. Just thought I'd share that.
BTW, I'm still doing what I can to determine what's going on and using precautions with clothes and shoes when leaving the house, but I'm not going crazy like I was.

I gotta get me some of those stress drugs. Or maybe just look at this website less.

worrywort, no one is gonna judge you for your choice. I am glad the medicine is helping. Most of us have intense psychological reactions when fighting bed bugs. And then we get to a place where it's less intense. But for me, I had to really work at it. I had to purposely change my thoughts, constantly, all day long. As soon as I'd think a despairing thought, I'd counter it with a more appropriate one. Or sometimes I'd have to visualize happy things until I felt a shift in perspective. And i had to take hot baths at night to relax. If I didn't do these mental exercises I would start having disturbed sleep and phantom crawling sensations, and general anxiety all the time. Anyway, my point is, you're not the only one who had to get some help somehow!

Several people have had luck with therapy also. Bed bug stress does not hit everyone at the same level, but it is common. At least one Bedbugger has even been diagnosed as having "Acute Traumatic Stress Disorder." (Acute- as opposed to Post-.) .
The stress is real. Good for you for getting help!

Xanax..I'm on it. 2 1/2 mg in the morning and 2 1/2 mg at night. It takes the edge off but I still am obsessing. My husband was eating a chocolate coated ice cream bar. ..dropped a tiny peice on his white tshirt..1 minute later I saw it and freaked thinking it was a bed bug. Does this sound like a woman on Xanax to you? I think not..lol
