I am thinking a light dusting of DE in cracks then seal the cracks. What is the proper stuff to seal them with? Clear caulk, what kind? A different sealer? If it's not made out of yarn or shoes, afraid I don't know much about home fix-it's but learning.

Your expert advice is welcome. Thanks - Portland OR.

You could use clear silicon caulk or white. Caulk is caulk. It just takes time to do it. There is a tool though that can speed things up. I forgot what it's called but basically it's like a plastic business card with a 45 degree angle snipped off one of the corners and as you scrape it along baseboards ( the 90 degree angle from floor to wall ) it makes a perfect line of smoothed out caulk. I would check the dollar store. I get good clear silicon caulk for a dollar a tube. The caulking guns are a dollar as well. $5.00 can go a long way

Talk to your hardware store experts.

Silicone caulk is not paintable but there are others, DAP acrylic plus silicone was my choice, Search the threads for caulk. Way back when I wrote a big post on my sealing efforts.
