Rug removal in NYC
(8 posts)-
Does anyone know of a reputable and reasonable rug removal company in NYC? I'm still in that stage of trying to figure out where my mystery bites are coming from so I'd rather err on the side of caution and hire someone who knows how to remove rugs where there might be a possibility of BB's. I guess I'm still trying to rule out.

1-800-got-junk will haul stuff away and they have claimed to be able to handle items which have been exposed to bed bugs if informed about the problem.
I don't know if they normally remove rugs (as opposed to just taking them away), but they're worth calling to ask.
(I have no connection with this company and as far as I know, they're not advertising here at this time.)
Note that most people don't need to throw things out, so you
might want to wait and see if a PCO requires this.More importantly, dragging an item through your home -- if bed bugs are indeed in it-- is not a good idea without precautions, so you might reconsider on this basis, or at least quiz the firm you hire on their methodology first. You don't want bed bugs scattered around, if there are any in there.

Nobugs,
Thanks for the informative reply. I will call them and inquire.
Part of the reason for my wanting to remove the rugs is that I'm trying to get to the bottom of this mystery bite thing. I've read on this site (and other sources) that BB are good @ hiding and I seek and cannot find. I've also read that a good hiding place is underneath the edges of rugs so this is my last resort. I've been dealing with this since autumn of 2010 (that is when I became aware that something was amiss - bite like marks). I truly am tired of this situation and just need to get to the root of the problem.
BTW, I did contact one of the pros on this website and after some Q&A I was told if I had a BB problem for that length of time it would be quite evident. Just when I thought I had a plan I feel at a loss again. Help! -
BTW, forgot to say the rugs are old and I had intended to remove them before this ordeal began.

If you have had bed bugs for nearly two years, you should be seeing signs. I suppose they could be hiding somewhere like under the rug. But they poop pretty quickly after feeding. They're not always going to get back to their harborage first. So there should be obvious fecal signs near where you sleep and maybe also near where you sit.
I am not an expert but this is what I have gathered from them.

Have you ruled out fleas?

I have yet to fecal or blood stains on my bed or anywhere else. Let alone cast skins or dead bugs. Whatever dead bugs or bug skins I've caught turn out to be something else (I've taken them to a pest control company and the pco has assured me not BBs). However, I did see something that unfortunately in my panic, I did not catch and am not even sure what I saw. This was in the very beginning of my ordeal back in 2010.
I've gone away for 4-9 days placing CO Beacon monitors and nothing.
Won the BB Passive + alert contest and as far as I know it was negative but still waiting to hear from DC.
I currently have the regular passive alert and nothing.
Funny you should suggest fleas because I've thought of that several times. I've yet to see one but I do often times feel something jumping around my legs when I sit at night in front of my TV or as I'm typing away right now. The bites are mostly in a single pattern, rarely in a double or triple pattern. Bite characteristics vary. -
Sorry for not answering your question: no I haven't ruled out fleas. Don't know what to do to rule this possibility out. Any suggestions? Thanks.
