Just wondering what the different things are that people do when returning from a trip. I know there are ideas in the FAQs but was just wondering what all of you actually do, esp if you don;t have a packtite. I have a trip coming up and am getting worried.

Inspect and bag while on the trip, bag everything on the way home except the case, inspect the case when arriving,
The hour of inspecting the room to ensure there are no bugs and then keeping everything bagged anyhow as a safeguard is worth a pound of cure.

Thanks Jim. Saw the other post too Wat. I am still confused about this security thing. I can't see TSA letting saran wrapped bags go thru security, never mind the fact that I don;t think saran wrap will slide down some of those luggage slides so well. As for bagging everything in the bag, don't you run the risk of this being opened by TSA as well? Pretty sure I will be driving my wife crazy with the whole bagging process ;-).

Hi upagain-
Here's what I do :
I ziploc everything that I put inside the suitcase. I bring a few extra ziplocs for dirty laundry or any purchases I am about to make. And I bring 3-4 large garbage bags in my luggage.I travel to the hotel. Upon arriving at the hotel, I put my luggage in the bathtub and then inspect the room. Even if I find the room "clean", I still follow a strict protocal because I know from experience that BBs can hide really well. I unpack my suitcase, leaving the clothes in ziploc bags in the drawers. I bag the empty suitcases in the garbage bags and they remain bagged until it's time to pack at the end of the trip.
Throughout my stay, almost everything stays in bags. If I read a book during my trip, I leave the book in the hotel room ... it doesn't come home. Once I even left a pair of shoes that I had worn at the hotel (I had forgotten to bag them overnight and didn't want to take the risk) I bag every piece of clothing as I dress and undress, the same as I would at home. I NEVER put a piece of clothing on the bed, not even for a minute while dressing.
When it's time to leave, I don't pack until the last minute. The Ziploced items are put back in the suitcase. If I have to pack earlier (which has happened to me due to meetings and tight flight schedules), I put the luggage back in the garbage bags.
Upon returning home, everything is put in a hot wash. Non-washable items are inspected and steamed.
I only wish they sold Packtite's in Canada. I'd love to own one!

Thanks for all the responses guys. I am trying to be proactive to never get these damn things but this is all making me anxious about traveling again. Feel like I never want to leave the house again. I mean, what about your carry-on luggage, heck, even your wallet? I mean it seams to me the it is almost impossiable to have everything bagged? Feeling kind of nervous. (Have a trip schedule soon).

Yeh, I still feel trepidation when travelling. I no longer dream about fabulous vacations in hotels.
You're right, you actually can't bag everything. The idea here is to decrease your odds.
As for the carry-on, I did bag it when I arrived at the hotel. But for one trip, I had to take my laptop, which obviously, I couldn't keep bagged all the time. You do the best you can and keep your fingers crossed!!

So, I can;t believe this, but I am making a "trial run" of packing. OMG! I want to bring my camera (love to take lots of pics) which is an SLR, so I have lenses, charges, etc. I just can't see how this can be done and I fell like I am leaving a lot of "holes" in this precautionary measure. I mean, do you bag each piece individually? What about when I am at my destination, bring everything around in plastic bags? Sorry for this worrisome rant, but I'm getting to a point that I am just ready to throw my hands in the air and not go anywhere anymore!
