I am literally covered with bites - its extremely embarrassing & demoralizing. My skin is normally smooth & blemish-free, however this week I've been trying to be creative about covering up myself during 90-degree heat in NYC. Does anyone have suggestions for what might prevent the bites from scarring permanently?? Trying to stay positive however seeing more bites (guess they are appearing now) is literally driving me crazy! I don't think I'll be the same person again after this. Please help.

An important thing, I think, is to avoid scratching. Scratching makes the itching worse and presumably makes scarring more likely.

Hot weather is the worst. Try to stay cool.

Are you getting treatment for your home?

The heat brings out skin conditions. I use benadryl for skeeter bites. Neosporin. Once my skin conditions are healed, I use mederma (spelling? ) for about six months to decrease the scarring.

Some people have to get shots from their dermotologist to bring down the swelling of the bites.

Good luck!! So sorry you are going through this.

I suffer from an allergy to mosquito bites and now (god help me) to bed bug bites.

I dab bites with a cloth dipped in hot water. Dab dab dab dab dab, not press or rub or pour. Water has to be scalding hot to work. It seems to counteract the skin reaction to the bug saliva. On fresh bites it can stop the allergic reaction altogether, on established bites it can banish itching for about 4 hours and reduce swelling. Staying out of direct heat (sunlight, hot cars etc) can also reduce itching.

Obviously, no one puts nearly boiling water onto another person and no one lets a child/less-than-able adult do this to themselves.

For me, this is the only thing that works. If I don't, a single bite swells up to the size of a dinner plate and things get real ugly.

Thanks so much everyone for the tips. I received successful (or so it seems) treatment in my home 3 days ago, so feeling a lot calmer now. Still sleeping on the couch though- scared to sleep in the bedroom. Also still paranoid about more bites Taking Benedryl & Claritin the last few days helped reduce the swelling from the bites tremendously. I will try neosporin & the hot cloth method as well. Should I be concerned about the one large red welt/rash-looking bite that is lingering after all the other ones have receded??
