As of recently, over the span of I would say about a week, I have gotten a succession of mosquito like bites on my thighs. At first I just had one, and then I went several days without anything else appearing. I awoke in the middle of the night last night to find three more bites; two on my right thigh and another of the left. They are not in the typical bed bug pattern (breakfast, lunch, dinner), but I have read that, that doesn't necessarily matter. Nor are they too terribly itchy. I am, however, slightly neurotic to begin with so I believe the obvious conclusion to be bed bugs. I stripped my bed, washed my sheets, pillows, everything in hot water. I inspected my mattress, and found no signs of an infestation. (i know that bed bugs are very tricky; but i was very thorough). I sprayed the mattress with Hot Shot bedbug and flea killer; (my dad bought it for me). I sprayed EVERYTHING. A couple of hours later, I found some black specks on my bed and a couple of light brown tiny (VERY TINY) possible bugs.I am a college student living at home for the summer, I wash my sheets every week, and I have not stayed in a hotel or traveled anywhere at all this summer, so I am very confounded as to how I would have a bed bug infestation. I have slept in my room all summer and had no previous bites or other signs of bed bugs. (it's quite possible they were dormant) ALSO, my sister has been getting random bites as well. She does not sleep in the same room as more, nor is she really in that close of a vicinity. My parents think I'm just being paranoid and over-reacting. We have never had any types of problems like this before. I'm desperate for answers, especially because if I do have them, I don't want the problem to follow me to school. I'm not sure if I should convince my parents to fumigate the place and hire a professional exterminator, or if I am just blowing this entire situation out of proportion. I am really desperate for any information advice on how to tend to the matter; anything will be appreciated. Thank youu!!!

trcha09! Welcome! I've been reading through the forums A LOT for the last couple weeks as I too am facing what I think is a mild infestation but who knows...One of the facts states NOT to spray with anything that is over the counter as it is a repellent meaning it might make them disburse with that said I would check your box spring thoroughly as well as all the furniture in your room...A common misconception is that bedbugs live in mattresses especially if you have sprayed they have found a new home...In my case we found signs of them on my bedside table..
Did you do the smear test on the spots? If it is bed bug feces it will smear a look like a muddy sediment. If this is the case make sure to get a PCO to inspect immediately and make sure NOT to throw or wash anything just yet! And dont stop sleeping in your room either!!
I'm no expert but am extremely phobic and anal when it comes to bugs and the facts pages on this website as well as the informative forums have helped a ton! Good luck to you and your family!
