Quick questions about how bed bugs spread...
(3 posts)-
Hi,
My girlfriend has bed bugs (only seen one so far) in her room.
Can I potentially transport them to my home if I only meet up with her outside her room i.e. we meet at a restaurant etc? If so what are the chances?
If I sat on a chair in her room for 10 minutes is it likely I could have picked up bedbugs?
Any help would be really appreciated, as I am starting to panic!
Thanks.

I got bed bugs from an ex who I was still on "friendly" terms with. You have to be careful!
She had them for a while with me staying at her place frequently without me getting them. I was careful and bagged my stuff immediately upon entry, showered before putting it back on, etc. Only wore clothes that I kept at her place. Of course, we didn't know at first that she was infected, but I avoided getting them because I generally hung my clothes on a hook on her door and kept boxers at her place to sleep in. How I got infected was when she slept over at my place because she was freaking out over it. After about two weeks of that, despite precautions, I got them... and they were definitely from that period of her sleeping over because they cause her to break out and she went bite free at my place for about two weeks.
Anyway, we were careful when she visited, but one reason she is an ex is that she is a bit lazy when it isn't her interest at stake, so she might have taken some shortcuts in precautions. Really though, I think that they came over in her hair or cell phone or something else.
So I think that your odds are low if you never visit each other's places, but these things are nefarious. They could even get from her to your car and from there to you to your place.
