Question to BB Veterans
(7 posts)-
Do you always Packtite all your stuff in and out of the house? Forever? Guilt involved any one night you come home really late and, not having any reason to suspect where you've been, choose not to Packtite your clothes and handbag?

Nothing enters even my vehicle from a BB job site.

Its deifnately an added worry when you have a bug sniffing dog that dives into bedding and drawers looking for the buggers. She gets lots of baths but we all know that wouldn't stop them...does make me feel a bit better. No infestations in my home or car yet (knocking on wood). I sure can't Packtite her but she tolerates cedar oil no problem (I use a brand called Safe-n-Sane - not my product) maybe thats why we have been lucky.

Understand that the two people who posted before me are in the bed bug industry and are being knowingly and unknowingly exposed to bed bugs multiple times a day.
Their risk is much higher than mine or probably yours.
To answer your question, no. I have some risk of exposure in daily life here in NYC, but I consider certain activities riskier (travel, theater, etc.)
If I feel I've been in a riskier situation, then I do, and I am glad to have the Packtite Closet ready to go when that comes up.

I'm not a BB veteran so pardon my reply... I have a packtite closet which is fast but still sometimes you just want to shower and go to bed...
I have ziplocs by the door and put things in that if I don't feel like packtiting right when I get home. For years, I've stripped out of outside clothes when I come home and go bathe/wash hair when coming home....heavy allergies.. once you get used to it, it's habit...for me, it also establishes that it's bedtime so I'm a good sleeper...
That said, when I was single, I didn't follow this protocol every day. I could see that being a problem if I were dating since I don't think inviting someone up for coffee and immediately stripping is in The Rules (horrible book...)

Thanks for your answers!
I realize certain behaviors would be *ideal*, it's just that a military regimen can be quite exhausting, especially after you've been keeping up a fight for several months (and it took all your former life away).
I was on vacation and some people were telling me of certain things to do to prevent thefts. Then one day rode with someone who did all the opposite. When I asked him, he said, "well, it's not that it doesn't happen, but it isn't that it always happens; and I think that being on your toes your entire life pretty much keeps you in a prison indefinitely, pretty much taking away the point of prevention." Made me think of how it applies to bbs. Also, what's the point of being so uptight about keeping a certain discipline when you share a house with more people who do just the opposite?

I don't know if it's my allergies but it makes me cough a lot. I hope it's not causing any harm... back to your post more specifically. I think I'm more used to using the packtite than the ziplocks. I'm really burned-out from using them non stop. Plus since we don't want any potential cross contamination we sort the ziplocks so, for example, my coat get its own bag. It's very tough to keep up the momentum but I think those who somehow find a way are those who have a better chance at victory. Hang in there.
