question: found some bug legs, are they moltings?
(3 posts)-
I just moved to a new apt, I was driven out of my old place by bed bugs. Roommate and I were extremely careful with everything we moved - hot drys, plastic bags, the works.
I've been getting a few bites on my arms at my new place BUT there are mosquitos and spiders in this new apt. I have seen both, and have heard buzzing mosquitos in my ear at night.
Yesterday I found some suspicious insect legs on my sheets. They were black and had joints. Should I be worried that these were bed bug moltings? Or should I continue to assume that all new bites are from other pests? I heard bed bug moltings are usually in one piece, not just legs.

BB skins are very fragile but are left intact. If the legs are firm, they are actual insect legs, from a dead insect, and not castings.
Eliminate the mosquitoes and proceed from there. The spiders are highly doubtful to be any factor.

Thanks, Jim. I appreciate the feedback. Are you saying you think the legs may be from a BB that died?
The mosquitoes seem to have gone away in the past few days, it's gotten colder so i think they probably croaked. I found another leg this morning though. I'll try to post a picture this weekend -- the legs are, i think, too big to be BB legs. I will honestly take any other kind of bug other than them!
I'm doing all I can to be chill about this, tough after going through the whole ordeal once already!
