Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » How bed bugs are changing the world
Public Awareness Progress

A close relative of mine that lives in Bergen County NJ called to tell me the news and couldn't believe what she saw when she was standing on line at the supermarket. This is a large chain supermarket and has TV screens that have news flashes, commercials, recipes and such for you to view as you are waiting on line. There is wording that goes across the screen so you know what's going on as you watch.
Well as she stood there on line she is watching and reading that the "EPA is investigating on how to kill bed bugs so you don't get them" Granted this may not be exactly what it said for I'm writing this second hand from what I heard from her. But none the less, I am very please to see that not only are bed bugs being taken seriously, but also more serious on getting news to the public. I'm sure if I were the average person standing on line at the supermarket reading that the EPA was looking into a problem with bed bugs it would stick in my mind to some extent. For the average person who never knew of bed bugs it at the very least would make a person go "Hmmmm." We need to see a lot more of this.
Bitter sweet news, but at least in the right direction.

It's great, isn't it?

Oh yeah! Sure is. It's also on the front page on the Star Ledger this morning. Much better than the comic peace I read 2 yrs ago. There was a small feeling of peace when my husband and I made eye contact as he showed me the news paper this morning. I'm so grateful that he and I are on the same page when it comes to this.

Nice. :) As more and more real people have real experiences with bed bugs, the less funny they're going to become. As all of us here know, they are no laughing matter.
As far as I'm concerned they can douse my entire home in DDT if it gets rid of the little f&*#ers. ;)lol

There was actually a piece on the EPA bed bug summit on NPR day before yesterday. I looked for a link to post, but NPR didn't have one up yet, and I worked a 14 hour day yesterday, so that wasn't a priority.
If I remember, I'll look later.
It was weird though. They mentioned all these names as they introduced people and I found myself thinking "Hey, I know who that person is."
And they interviewed Doug.

It good to see the global media machine in progress, a depth charge is dropped in Washington and the waves spread out.
I just wished I had shaved before I left the house this morning as no sooner had I made it to the office but one of the BBC news programs invited themselves over for a follow piece to something we did a few years ago.
I will not be posting much next week as Pest Ex is in London and we have a lot to focus on. I will however be arranging a podcast from the event on the second day so I can do a live update on what is being launched at the show. I am aware of at least 3 specific bed bug products coming out and hear rumours of a few more.
I will post links as soon as they are available.

Knowledge may be power but education is the key. While bed bugs continue to plague our dream scapes, it certainly seems that movement is being made toward addressing their bite. I think that many people effected by bed bugs at the present are better off now as years ago it would often take months of increasing bed bug activity for them to even be suspected. Now it is not only part of the thought process but sometimes has to be ruled out as some fields like dermatologists scape goat too much on bed bugs. On another point more inspections of surrounding units and incoming supplies and personnel are being done which has helped resolve issues earlier on. As avenues for information open the dissemination of good researched information will emerge, which will enable people to more effectively resolve their situation. Of also great importance is the reduction of social stigma which has surrounded these arthropods for so long and has interfered in control.
