Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Bed Bug Treatment
Pros please evaluate this treatment - will this work??
(8 posts)-
OK, so I just had the first treatment with the new PCO. I'm a little worried (well, a lot worried....)and wanted to get the opinion of some of the experts/& other very knowledgeable individuals. Two men came today for the first treatment. They answered every single question I had (although, like many on this forum, I had some information that they seemed not to know....oy) In any case, they appeared to be knowledgeable enough, thank God. They called me after the treatment, to let me know I could return to the premises in approximately 3 to 4 hours. And they also warned me the room was "like a hurricane went through it". OMG, they were NOT kidding. They took the bed apart and sprayed every crevice. They took all the drawers out of the dresses and treated them They turned over my nitestand and end-of-bed bench and treated it top and bottom. They treated my chairs, and couch. They used Gentrol, Bedlam, and Transport. They removed the switchplates (I totally forgot and they said no problem they'd do it for me) but it doesn't appear as if they dusted, although this was done on my first round of treatments so maybe they didn't think it was necessary? I have no idea, and will call them tomorrow to ask about this. They will return in approx. 2 weeks (I have to call tomorrow to schedule the follow-up) and they will return approx 2 weeks after that, and I have a 30 day guarantee. My bbs were in both in the bedroom and my dining room in the chair. I sit in to work at my computer, and tonite I was bitten a number of times on my arm. However, I am HIGHLY reactive, and these bites were barely more than small bumps with almost not burning/itching I normally experience. This is totally normal - right??? In any case, my question is, this is my second go-around, with a totally different PCO, and the first PCO used totally different pesticides (like a combintation of 8 - 10 of them.) So now I'm worried and wanted some expert feedback to allay my fears, help me sleep, keep me from freaking out....I'm SO over these damned bugs. Can I just whine for one second? I AM SO DONE. I have been infested and re-infested, had my car infested, who knows if I infested anyone else before being bb safe became just part of my daily routine...I WANT THEM GONE. Not just from my apartment, but from EVERYWHERE!! If anyone on this board knows who I should start talking to, writing to, screaming at, to initiate a massive scientific investigation leading to the total, complete, and absolute eradication of this creature, I am SO ready to get on my soap box. OK, rant over (sorry for the melodramand and the caps...I haven't been sleeping lately....). In any case, any input on the efficacy of this treatment protocol would be greatly appreciated. I am SO grateful for the existence of this place - just reading it has talked me off many ledges these past few months!

I am not an expert but feel your pain, go ahead yell! You get to deserve to!
My truck got infested as well when I was taking things to the dump. I finally got so upset opened the door and started spraying Pro Kill on contact, closed the door waited then sprayed Dr Doom Residual, waited, then puffed a heck of a lot of DE Powder into it.
Gonna be a mess to clean up but hope they are gone!
Wonder if I am gonna be able to breathe in there though?

Mam,
Im not an expert either, so I will let someone more knowledgable in regard to treatments answer your questions.. I just wanted to say, I am truly sorry youre going thru this nightmare..dont apologize for spouting off, my friend..youre entitled..anyone going thru this is entitled to have a fit from time to time (i feel one coming on in the not too distant future myself) so no worries there. This battle is excruciatingly frustrating, compounded by the lack of sleep.. We're only human, we can only take so much.Im sure someone will be along shortly to answer your questions..in the meantime, take a deep breath, and remember to make time to do something special for you..

Thanks for your comments, Alberta and EOMR, and for your support. I'm so sorry you guys are going through this, too. Lately I have become so damned self-absorbed that I feel as if I'm the only one in the world experiencing this and I will continue to go through it for the rest of my life...intellectually I know that is not the case, but I just can't shake the feeling thats what will happen. End, I know we're only human, but I have often felt lately I can't take anymore, and that in order to get through this you have to somehow be super-human, and I'm having serious doubts that I am equal to that task. My friends do not get it - not even my therapist, who is otherwise an awesome guy, not even he gets it. BTW, Alberta, I'm absolutely NOT an expert, but I am worried about you inhaling the DE in your car, not to mention the chemicals. From what I've read on here, I believe this is harmful. That being said, however, I totally get it. Totally. I'm faced with either getting a dog to check my car ($300+) or getting the car either Vikaned or heated (either one will be $800, unless I can negotiate them down....) I can't do both right now, but I don't want to have the car treated if there are no bugs in it....I probably will try a passive monitor, but I'm still afraid they will get on me somehow before I can find them, and I'll bring them back in the house, and start this nonsense all over again. Or worse - what if I bring them somewhere? OMG, that would be even worse than me having them. A thousand times worst. This has all made me think about people who do not have the resources to fight this battle. What do people do who don't have $1000+ for a PCO, or $300+ for a dog, or $300+ for a packtite, or hundreds of dollars for bags, laundry, etc etc etc. I can't even imagine, and it makes me feel hopeless and helpless...and those are sentiments I rarely experienced pre-bbs. Good luck to both of you, and to everybody going through this.

Well...it's supposed I'm an expert...
although, like many on this forum, I had some information that they seemed not to know....oy
Sure, and not that amazing. This forum is a priceless informations source. They took the bed apart and sprayed every crevice. They took all the drawers out of the dresses and treated them They turned over my nitestand and end-of-bed bench and treated it top and bottom. They treated my chairs, and couch. They used Gentrol, Bedlam, and Transport. Sounds like they did a thorough job. .. and a 3 treatments strategy is a reasonable one using chemicals.
They called me after the treatment, to let me know I could return to the premises in approximately 3 to 4 hours. And they also warned me the room was "like a hurricane went through it". OMG, they were NOT kidding.Yeah, I "hurricane" a room too to do my job. But I put again everything in the right place when it's finished. I guess it's because I do not use chemicals but steam, and so everything can be handled just after it has been treated...
Another thing that I love of a steam treatment is that the customer has not to stay outdoor and so can exactly see what I'm doing and listen to my explanations and advices.I sit in to work at my computer, and tonite I was bitten a number of times on my arm. However, I am HIGHLY reactive, and these bites were barely more than small bumps with almost not burning/itching I normally experience. This is totally normal - right???
Yeah, it is. BBs take days to die after a chemical treatment and, until a few hours before their death, they tend to behave normally (bites included).

Just to add (not an expert)…dust done right is virtually undetectable. So, your outlets may have been done, after all.

OMG. thank you thank you thank you EffeCi for your input. I feel somewhat better, especially knowing that you are extremely knowledgeable in this area. I guess since you don't use chemicals you can't speak to the efficacy of the combination they used (I hope someone can!), but I'm just happy to hear that this "hurricane" was a good practice. So, I'm curious about your methods. I didn't realize you don't use chemicals. I know chemicals are not essential in this fight, but I thought the only way to ensure total complete annihilation was to lay residuals (unless one used Vikane or heat, of course). Obviously I am lacking information. So, do you spend the majority of your time seeking out the harborage and getting them at the source (a la KQ), is that why you are successful without chemicals? I'm just trying to understand, because considering the issue of chemical resistance, it appears to me that successful long-term strategies for getting rid of these !@#$%&*!!!! must by necessity (in my absolutely NON-scientific, purely educated guess-based opinion) be based in a non-chemical approach. Thanks again for your comments.

Just to add (not an expert)…dust done right is virtually undetectable. So, your outlets may have been done, after all.Oh, wow, thank you, Cilecto, this is also information I was unaware of. Thanks for this. I know it is necessary to lay the dust with an extremely light hand, but I guess I was expecting to see something. Also, there is no mention of any dust in the report they left, so that also informed my belief. I'm about to call them to schedule my next treatment, so I will obtain clarification. But I appreciate this information very much.
