We just had both pre- and post-settlement inspections done on a low rise condo that we just purchased, and are moving into in a few weeks, as we recover from BB issues in our apartment (no bites for a few weeks now but we continue extreme measures). No trace of any pests, including BB's, were found in the new place. The inspector did offer some preventive treatment options that involve spraying stuff into cracks and crevices and caulking up the cracks. Any value in this? We do plan to live out of watertight containers and giant ziplock bags for another two years, with all our untreated (non-double dryer dried or non-pack-tighted) belongings either disposed of or placed into sealed containers in remote storage for two years.

    Hi,

There is no such thing as a preventative treatment for bed bugs. By all means caulk if you feel it will help but in most countries it is actually against the law to treat an area that does not need treating.

Yes some PCO's will offer it as a service, lets face it the profit margin is good given that you get the same money for little or no work but it is not what I would call professional conduct or behavior.

If you are clear in your current location and take all the steps in the FAQ to ensure that you reduce the risk of taking anything with you which it sounds like you are doing with the PackTite when as long as the source of bed bugs is not something that you come into regular contact with then you should remain free of them.

I was actually asked about this by a journalist the other day and beyond an application of DE there is no preventative beyond checking locations you stay away from home and checking your home on a regular basis.

Hope this clarifies and saves you some money.
