prep help wanted in upper manhattan
(4 posts)-
we have a supposedly light infestation (no BB evidence, but tons of bites on my son) and are getting a treatment on saturday. I'm trying to do the prep, but overwhelmed. I called one of the professional prep companies and they want about $1000 to help. I can't afford this. Is anybody interested in helping out for $20/hr? If so PM me.

Like, first thing on Saturday, or sometime later in the day?
I live in Harlem and wouldn't mind helping out (with or without payment), but I'm pretty busy for the rest of the week. :(
Especially if you have a light infestation, do what you can and don't stress out about the rest. I don't know what kind of prep your PCO told you to do, but it's usually enough if you (1) strip bedding and bag it (you'll want to wash and dry on high heat before putting it back on the bed, but that doesn't necessarily have to be done before they treat the apt.), (2) clear the area around beds, including emptying clothing out of dressers and closets -- again, bag stuff that you can wash later, for stuff that isn't clothing just make a pile in the middle of the room.
That should be enough that they can spray chemicals where they need to do so.
I know it can be super overwhelming to feel like you have to do everything, all at once, and follow the protocol 100% perfectly in order to get rid of the bugs. But we had a light infestation, too, and even though my roommates were complete crap about following protocol, we did get rid of them. Just remember there's no harm in sealing a bunch of stuff in "deal with later" bags, as long as you remember what's been debugged and what hasn't.

thanks so much wirehead. your post is exactly the sort of reassuring story I've been craving. treatment is sat AM so don't worry about it.

Good luck and keep us updated! Judging from the number of discarded mattresses on the curbs, it seems like EVERYONE around here has 'em. :(
