Pre-PCO prep work questions
(3 posts)-
Ok so I have Orkin coming on Thursday the 15th. I REALLY want the treatment to be effective. RIght now Im laundering every single piece of clothing and linen in the entire house whether its in a room that we know has biting bed bugs or not and then putting them in sealed bags. Im curious though, anyone know if anything special has to be done with things like book cases? we have quite a few books in a book case in the bedroom about 5 feet from the bed.
This all is so daunting and overwhelming and infuriating cause we got our unwanted guests from a hotel.
Can I use sprays to treat our minivan? I know there was contaminated items in our van on the drive home from the airport. Where I live the temperatures are currently not getting above 60 degress during the day so parking the car in a sunny spot isnt gonna get it warm enough to kill the bugs.

The best advice about prepping your book cases is to call your PCO and ask him or her. Every PCO uses a slightly different protocol depending on how he or she is going to treat. We can't tell you what your PCO is going to do.
Also, ask the PCO about the minivan. Car infestations are surprisingly rare given how often we carry luggage that may be the source of a bed bug infestation in the car.
I'm 95% sure I picked up my infestation at a hotel, and my bags sat in my car for hours (hours after check out plus a several hour drive home). My car wasn't infested. And most people here don't have infestations in their cars, even with heavy infestations in the home.
(Also, for the record, letting the car heat up on a sunny day is not a reliable way of ridding the rare infested vehicle of bed bugs. Thermal treatment of any sort required raising the temp in a very predictable, controlled way--and that's simply not possible when relying on the sun to do the work for you. For thermal to work, every nook and cranny of the structure or item needs to reach very high temps at a pretty even rate. Thermal relies on the bugs scurrying off to cooler spots to escape the heat while the temp continues to rise so that by the time the temp in the cooler spots gets too hot, the bugs will leave that spot seeking an even cooler one only to find themselves exposed to super hot temps in the hotter part of the structure, suitcase in the Packtite, etc. Cars, with all that plush upholstery and the shady trunk, are very difficult to get using solar power alone to the thermal death point throughout the whole vehicle. The good news is that it's rare indeed for a car to get infested. )
If you're concerned about the vehicle and you trust your PCO, consult him or her to find out whether the minivan needs inspecting, and if anything is found, consult him or her as to best plans for the car.

well i know my son had his stuffed animals and favorite blanket in the hotel room, thats how we think he got them in his room at home, so we figured they might also be in the van since he had the stuffed animals and blanket out of the suitcase.
I have the PCO prep list, it just doesnt mention anything about books.
