Pre & Post Vikane, what do I need to know?
(5 posts)-
We've finally decided to go ahead with Vikane for our home.
Their prep instructions were:
Leave as much as possible in the house
Travel with ziploc, no luggage
All clothing in dryer upon arrival (we're staying @ grandma's house) & upon return to our home
Take food, makeup with us, or wrap in special bags (provided by PCO)
Open windows 3 inches, blinds & drapes open too
Open all drawers, cupboards, interior doors (including attic & crawl space)
Remove anything from plastic (mattresses, pillows, clothing, etc.)Post return instructions are:
All clothing directly into the dryerIt almost seems to easy... Don't get me wrong, I'm totally stoked to have these bugs out of my life (and I haven't even known about them for a week yet!) But I feel like I might be missing something important to ensure that we are 100% effective. Any ideas what that might be? Any additional suggestions to ensure that they are all gone?
BTW this company does offer a 30-day guarantee.

Wow you are so lucky to get a 30 day guarantee. I would do this in a heartbeat but the two big name companies I investigated wouldn't give any days guarantee..
Make sure you buy all new hairbrushes, make-up, etc and don't bring the old stuff to Grandma's. Maybe have your car detailed or vacuumed out really well before you leave. Good luck and congrats!!!

Just fyi.....if you have crib mattresses. They are made of plastic and the fumigant gas can get trapped inside. We were told to toss them due to safety precaution. If you have crib mattresses ask your svc provider on what to do with them for you may have to replace them. We had 3 crib mattress that were replaced. There was no way I was taking a chance on that. If you think your vehicle/s may be infested you can ask if they can be done within the structure. (we had one vehicle in the garage and one right next to the house and the tarp went over the vehicle as well.) We rented out a mini van and used cheap car seats for the kids that I chose not to reuse after that. Oh, and one more thing....if possible purchase new protect a bed encasements for all the beds ahead of time and leave them in the house so they are there and ready to put on for your return. Hope this may be of help.

paula,
thanks for the advice about the crib mattresses, we do have one and it is the plastic kind. I'll call the PCO tomorrow and ask about it.
We are leaving the cars under the tent, haven't quite figured out the transportation issue to grandma's yet. We don't think the car is infested, but would rather make sure!
We have encasements for the master bedroom, and the rest of the mattresses have been covered in plastic (which will need to be removed). That reminds me to search the forum for posts on alternative encasements... we have used vinyl in the past to protect the mattresses from bed wetters. Two of the kids have Ikea sized toddler beds, which aren't a standard size, so I don't know what to do about that. -
I believe they make mattess encasements for thinner mattresses as well. Check for futon encasement sizes? Maybe that can help. I sent you a PM if you need anything.
