Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Uncategorized
Please help identify
(17 posts)-
Hey, found this bug on the back of my mattress... I have seen a few of them over the past year. I am aware of the bed bug problem out there, since I know of people who have had / still have them. it is not a pleasant experience.
please see the photos below... the bug had antennae that I inadvertently destroyed. you can see the leftover of the antennae in the first 2 pics on the left hand side... Please help me identify what this bug is. Is it a bed bug?
I live in an apartment building on a high floor (just ion case that matters)
Thank you in advance for all your help.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/smkstang1/DSC05285.jpgit seems to me that bedbugs have only six legs... I am not sure but I think I can easily count more than that on this one

I really don't think its a bed bug, but I also have no idea what it could be. Give it sometime, some of the experts will be along.
-
It is a woodlouse or sowbug species most likely.
-
I appreciate the reply. Hopefully someone can confirm whether it is a bed big or not...
-
Guaranteed not a BB.

you might want to flip it over and take a pic and re link it....the first pics didn't link to the site...

thank you all for quick replies... seems like my thoughts are confirmed that it is not a bed bug...

I have these creatures in my apartment - on a high floor, too. Lou Sorkin identified them as isopods/terrestrial crustaceans. They are not insects. They are not supposed to bite humans, however some isopods can are parasites. I asked Dr. Sorkin by e-mail if they could bite humans, but I never got an answer.
I haven't been able to rid them of my apartment. Plus I have bites.
Why would they be on Curiosity's bed? I find mine very near and around my bed too.
-
Terrestrial isopods are all scavengers and they don't bite. Their presence is generally related to high environmental humidity.

YEA THANK God!!!

Crustacians? Isopod scampi, anyone?

I believe the creature, as stated by many, is a wood louse... It rained for the past few days here and this may have triggered their appearance. I see them once in a while, not too often. When they do venture out, they usually appear in a pack of 3-4. Thank you all for alleviating my concerns.
Thanks

Scavenge what? Dead bed bugs? BB eggs? Dead human skin cell? This is what I was trying to discuss with Dr. Sorkin. I am wondering if their presence can be related to the existence of bed bugs.
-
Woodlice, related to bed bugs no, related to damp yes.
Dr Sorkin has been in Vegas all week so please be patient awaiting a reply but I think you will find as others have said they do not bite. It could be possible that they cause an allergic reaction in the same way that some other non biting insects do.
It is however not something I have seen before.

The eat plant material typically.

That's what I read, but I have no plants or dirt. Both Curiosity and I are in high-rise buildings on upper floors.
Also, it's likely what they feed on is the bacteria breaking down the plant material, not the plant itself. So the bacteria they eat can be such that attacks dead bed bugs and the like.
That's the connection I was surmising.
