    It is a long story but think we finally have the hard proof we've been looking for.

    Please look at these pictures and tell me if it is a bed bug (photos 5-8 in "Is this It?").

    My husband found it dead underneath our bed.

    I'm not an expert but that's clearly not a bed bug. I think that it's a roach (though definitely don't quote me on that).

    Not a bed bug, nor any near kin.

    Have a look at this sites FAQ on how to identify bed bugs; there are some excellent pics there of BBs at all stages of development, theyll give you a clear idea of what the little blighters look like.

    Sorry for weird formatting. Using a foreign character keyboard and it seems to have some quirks when I ask for elements of english punctuation;

    Are you sure it isn't a bed bug?

    Koebner, we know the pictures you suggested quite well but were still sure this was one! The body has those bed bug lines (maybe they don't show up in the pictures very well?). My husband thought the front legs or antenna were too long, maybe I am just too persuasive? I guess I am trying to find a reason behind our mystery bites... ? Maybe I am going crazy...?

    Any other opinions?

    BTW, thank you to everyone who responds to this post, has responded to my other posts, and looks at this post. Without you all I really would lose it!

    It's 100% not a bed bug. The body shape is all wrong. Whatever it is, photos of it show up on here fairly frequently and if I recall correctly they're IDd as roaches.

    Thanks RS1971! My eyes must be playing tricks on me (and I appreciate that your post made me laugh).

    We have had roaches in our bed room before (disgusting but somehow less so than bed bugs).

    I actually felt some relief at having finally "found" a bed bug, but now I am feeling another type of relief. Of course this means the mystery bites will remain a mystery but we can live with that for now. Hopefully bed bugs won't be their cause. Nut just in case, we will remain vigilant in our inspections! Thank you again!

    RS1971 means a ROACH nymph I think, it's definitely not a bed bug.

    Yes, sorry, I obviously meant ROACH nymph. Hence the link to the photo of the ROACH nymph
