In October myself, my son & my husband moved into a 3 unit apt building. My brother in-law lives next door to us & there is a man living in the apt below us. about 2 weeks after we moved in I woke up with 3 extremely itchy bites. I thought nothing of it at the time, thought maybe it was a spider, etc. The next week I woke up with several more bites. My husband happened to mention that I was getting bit to his brother & his brother tells him about this horrible bed bug infestation he had in his apt next door... so bad that they had to throw away all of their mattress and treat the apt several times. Not once did he mention the infestation to our land lord. So here it is now December, I have treated our apt several times, washed and dried all laundry and all mattress and pillows are in plastic. I am still waking up every couple of weeks with more bites & I think I am somewhat allergic to them because they are very intense and cause a fair amount of swelling. My 2yo son has been bit a few times, but his go away after a day and he doesn't scratch at them.. my husband has been bit ZERO times. My land lord is having an exterminator come in after the holiday, but I have read about how HARD it is to get rid of these thing, especially when they are in apts. Right now we have no option but to stay, other wise I would have been long gone. This problem is driving me crazy, the itching is so intense, I look like I have a flea infestation on my body & I can't sleep at night because I am constantly flipping back the covers to look for these things.
I have checked out mattresses several time & can see no signs that they were there. I started using white sheets in hopes of catching some sort of evidence, but got nothing. I have pulled back carpeting, taken off light switch covers & even pulled out some base boards, but again I am finding no evidence that these things are here with us other then the bites they leave behind on me.
If there is ANY advice anyone can offer me to rid myself of these problem (short of moving) please share it with me! Is there anyone else out there who has defeated these suckers in their apt??
