PCO 2nd visit , air matress, depression and despair
(18 posts)-
Hey, its been a long time. Here is the update of my despair. My friend was visiting me and it was a week of delight and forgetfulness and new air matress...until i got bitten again in pimple like-triad. Immediate depression.
They are so tiny little reddish spots I get, with a white center...but there is no other explanation or cause but bb's...they dont even itch that much or im getting used to them...
I thought it was pretty much over, and don't understand how this happened in my new isolated aerobed. OK maybe sheets touched the ground since my former queen metal frame is not good for the airmatress.PCO came again yesterday for 2nd visit. This guy seemed better than the previous one he looked like Bob De Niro in Brazil.(same co., which i dont reallly like but it my landlord's choice).Speaking of landlord the ass brought the new lease with the exterminator yesterday and wanted me to sign it ON MY WAY OUT OF MY ZIPLOCKED APT WHILE THE EXTM WAS DEPLOYING
SO TACTLESS
Right now:
1)I threw the frame away and will isolate bed on floor with plastic as willow advised....
2)The airmatress doesn't need an encasement right? I just wipe it clean w/ kleen free
3)I would like to clean w/murphy's oil(yet again this week) my hardwood floor when isolating bed but
a)i'm afraid that will remove the PCO's pesticide
b) how long does the effect of M's oil last?4) bins vs dresser qtsn! I also want to put my zippies in the dresser in my closet room. I am getting tired of the meat packing district look (hanging in xxl bags tied to my metal rack) s
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? VACUUM? My efforts dont seem to work...why do i still get bitten if i isolate bed, clean room and do laundry EVERY OTHER DAY...
FYI I have not seen a bb since i first found the one in my boxspring w/the eggs.
My roomie is slowly gaining consciousness and getting afraid of the perpetual possibility of damnation awaiting....
We got a subletter coming in this Fri: he doesnt know what is awaiting him and I am afraid my other roomie didnt really explain all this...
I swear its itching all over now.Old bites reactivated. -
fick - i just saw mine once too although they continued to be around for 5 months. i had 3 wrong treatments and then 4 real treatments. one will not do it. you must keep playing the game throughout. and roomate too. or else all the hard work will have been in vain.
-
YES nightshirt. I know it is never enough-what do you mean 3 wrong treatments? incompetent pco?
they promised that 3 treatment would take care of it, and they we have a guarantee...im pessimistic... -
yes. i wanted to go cheap so i hired an incompetant pco. maybe he has educated himself since then. but he only used tempro. i knew he needed a residual and dusting but i did it anyway. then after that i had to research on the net, find out the correct eradication chemicals and interview pco from the phone book. got the real deal at the end of december. great holiday season for me (not) and he did the trick. and he was only $100 more than the incompetant one. what a stupid waste of money and time and in the meantime im sure they multiplied.
learned a lesson with these f-ers. no inexpensive way out of the situation and be prepared to invest a whole lotta time.
-
Ficktion, please, please tell the new subletter. Please.
-
you definitely need to tell the sublettor. they might be ok with it and fearless or they may run. but you need to divulge. it's like renting a place with rats (kinda). you gotta let them know. if you continue to treat and treat and treat...eventually you will find relief.
-
Yes--
A few things:
MOST cases take 3 OR MORE treatments. Every two weeks, every two weeks, until there are NO signs.
Are your bites fewer now? Yes? it is working. But you must persist.
Do not mop or vacuum or anything like that unless you ask the PCO and describe where. You could well wipe away a residual spray or dust.
I believe Murphy's is a contact kill. If you use a contact kill and wipe away a residual, you're shooting yourself in the foot.
Don't just tell the subletter, tell him/her everything. Make sure you educate. Not only do you need to allow them a chance to flee, but YOU need to know this person will cooperate with treatment methods. A lot of people won't.
-
I will tell the sublettor and educate him , or coherce him into the procedure..
I am getting bitten MORE OFTEN, DURING THE DAY NOW. Yesterday I slept elsewhere and worked from home and got like 4 new spots.Where they in my clothes? I dont want to remove the chemical from the PCO visit 2 days ago...
I am thinking of isolating my desk or moving it to the living room. The legs are coated, it has been wiped with alcohol and the chair too ,
but my feet are on the ground.
What to do? (besides more vaseline) -
get a large plastic bin--outline the rim in vasaline--keep your feet in the bin while at the computer--YOU DON'T have to move anything--bad idea to move furniture, generally speaking.
Folks--this takes months and it takes everyone's cooperation.
Fickton has some difficulties with the roomates ....
last I heard they were coming around--but Perhaps it is now become a case of "YOU'RE roomates Bed bugs" are NOW infesting YOU--and not the other way around???
By now ... they could be everywhere--yet .... with PCO treatments they should be dying if:
Everyone has isolated their beds 100%
If everyone follows the FAQS to a "T" as best as they can regarding sealed laundry and extra care in washing folding and storing.
I'm sorry all this happens to you fickton at such a tender time--but the bed bugs just don't care about your dissertation, and they will not let up on you and your housemates until everyone cooperateds in sync for months.
that is the bare, raw deal fact about it.
I'm sorry
WillowPS--
And this can go on for months!
This is one reason bed bugs often seem to hang on ....
People don't want to do the things they need to do ... for even up to a full month or six weeks until AFTER their last encounter with a bed bug.The babies are strong and are clear colored (until fed) and are only about the size of this: ( ' )
Can anyone find 20 of those in a house?
I doubt it--especially not if the (')'s are all hiding INSIDE furniture, rugs and picture frames.
Persistance 100%--by EVERYONE.
This is how the BED BUG problem is tackled. -
THEY Are really this(') small???? Great... lint can even be a BB :( I didn't realize they were hat small at birth... wow...
As for the feet in the water while typing on a computer... is that safe... as in... water + electricity = electrocution? Just wondering... I am just a worry wart when it comes to this things... Too bad there aren't huge bats of vsseline to put feet in... although I suppose that would be a bit slimey.
-
I never said anything about water.
Outline a very large plastic container with vasaline--this is a rim of vasaline on the outside of the container.Put your feet inside that! If your feet have no bed bugs on them ... you will not get bitten on the feet. (if they do and the bed bugs come off your feet--then they are trapped inside the tub--So ... then you should check the tub and kill them or save the bugs for the landlord/PCO as evidence.
Simple.
the bugs will however, then try to climb the chair--so y9ou need to vasaline the legs (about half way up too with an inch and 1/2 ) of vasaline. My computer chair is covered with plastic bags--about eight ofthem four on each coushion.
-
Ok... see... this is what happens when you don't sleep... I swear I read the word water... or perhaps it was my own wish to drawn the little things... hahaha... So sorry! :( I need a proof reader for me... next thing you know they will find me on my machine with my feet in water... ooohh... and a hair dryer... bad bad bad me :(
-
for punishment ... "I command you" to read (and comment on) my last three posts about bed bug traps!
After careful consideration of the implications of such traps, and combined killng heat treatments of baggign and using a commercial drier for a pre-heated short amounts of time ;) -
I used the trap,willow!
I think it worked, i was getting bitten on my desk didnt realize there was a pile of used paper towels(feet wiping residue mostly)
no more bites so far... PLEASE WORK RESIDUAL CHEMICALS ...PLEASE
My q's now:1)How long should I wait after PCP 2nd visit to wipe sanitized my air matress? I dont wanna wipe of chemicals, its been 5 days...i did bedding laundry today-
2) I have it on black plastic bag home- made isolation "platform "with vaselined ducktaped and carpet taped perimeter...LOVELY
-SO EASY TO CLEAN-I just dust alcohol on it (it wasnt there when the pco cleaned and alcohol evaporates, no?To my dismay a huge sort of centipede quickly crossed my vaseline barrier sorrounding it last night...but it had huge tall legs for running-but why did it survive the residual chemicals, b/co f of its tall legs?
3) how to clean:
a)the fan i dust it w/alcohol regularly
b)i have a poster on the wall by the bed...yes, it is the only thing left in my room,i beg u!! i was thinking of rubbing it with alcohol and doing a painter's tape around it, will that be safe-ish?
roomies are sort of on this...including sublettor but he did not take measures yet
-
1--you need to ask your PCO!
2--I am confused: why is your laundry on a platform? Do you bring it home in a sealed bag (eg XL or XXL ziploc)?
re: centipede: they eat bed bugs. He is probably having fun right now. The pesticides in use may not kill him OR there may be a time-to-death factor as there is with some substances. (I am talking about the pesticides of course, the vaseline is just to make it hard for BBs to walk through, and that may not be a centipede issue.)
3a sounds fine
3b i don't think painter's tape will necessarily stop a bed bug. They can hide behind posters. It's up to you, though, if you want to keep it up. It's just one poster. -
Hi there buggers...
I have a question about my mattress. After our second PCO visit, I put a National Allergy cover on my mattress and pillows, and a vinyl one on the boxspring...taped off the zippers and everything. I never really had signs of infestation in the mattress, but I was getting bitten. The PCO treated between the mattress and boxspring, as well as the floor underneath and around with residual killer. Problem is...even with the covers and fresh bedding and vacuuming in the creases, I'm still getting bites at night. So now what? The PCO is due to come back in a week or so and I'm going through everything as suggested by the FAQ on the site, but should I just pitch the mattress, put on another cover? -
Willow, was that punishment for me? Yikes... I have been trying to lead some sort of "normal" life.. so, i have not been checking as often as I have in the past... shame on me :(
Hmm... vaseline.. costco... huge amounts of vaseline... check! I am going to do this... even if I am not getting bitten at my computer... but I spend a lot of time on my comp... better safe than sorry! Thank you for the tips!

Buggedup,
They can be in the walls, floorboards, other furniture, chairs, sofas (and bites appear after the fact so you may be bitten in these other places). What's more, if your bed is not fully isolated (read all three protecting the bed FAQs) they could be crawling up to get you or living in the frame. Keep working on the isolating. And remember you can be bitten by day. I would not personally toss the mattress.Ficktion,
They may bite more in the day if they can't get you at night (if bed is isolated). But you must sleep at home! If you are not there, they will not be drawn to you and walk through poison. OTOH if they bite in daytime this should mean death too IF they are not living within and biting you from an untreated sofa, desk chair, etc. Remember, it's not just beds. Most of all, persist! It will take more treatment. It should NEVER be worse than before treatment. If this is so, investigate what the PCO is using, whether neighbors are infested and untreated (remember they may not be bitten or see them) and consider the same of your roommates. It sounds like it isn't worse, so persist with PCOs. Are your clothes treated and bagged?
