Packtiting my laptop
(12 posts)-
I just packtited my Dell Latitude laptop, at just under 140 degrees as a max (and having taken out the battery) and it works perfectly. I know the company doesn't recommend packtiting electronics, but I just thought i'd post my experience.

cool, just wish I could afford a packtite lol.....for my laptop, as I know we had it out of the case and used it in our infested hotel room, I took all the covers off (Im certified in PC repair) and blew it out with a can of compressed air....not fool proof but thats what I could afford.....also got out some nice dust bunnies from the fan :)

Can a pack tite be set for 120 and run for longer? Wouldn't that be safer?
-
well a CPU actually gets pretty hot on its own, as long as the unit is completely turned off (not in hibernate ie no indicator lights on either) and then also given sufficient time to cool afterwards, there really shouldnt be a problem.
you need 140 because of any chances of insulation. insulating will decrease the core temp so if your ambient temp is already 120, if there was any sort of inulation the core temp would be less than 120

Oh, it needs to be 140 or above??? I didn't know that! Mine was just UNDER 140. I guess I'll do it again and report the results. :(
Also, I don't know of a way to set a temp on Packtite. You just turn it on, and it goes up in temp. -
no Im just saying you need a n ambient temp higher than your target. If you are targetting 120, you want it higher than 120, how high depends on that amount of insulation....the closer to 120 the longer you have to leave it in.
yeah I dont think packtite has an adjustable thermostat.
