PackTite for dummies...(4 posts)
Okay, so I've ordered a PackTite and am about to use it for the first time after returning from a trip. I have a few general questions about putting certain items in the unit...
I'll be PackTiting a number of paper items: passport, paper receipts from stores and such, and (if I'm extra paranoid) currency. Can these things be put into the PackTite in a Ziploc bag, which is where I intend to keep them pre-PackTiting? If so, I imagine the Ziploc bag should be opened once it's in the unit? Will this prevent the contents inside the bag from heating up to the required temp??
I've gotten feedback thus far about PackTiting a laptop (sans battery.) Think I'm going to go for it this time, mainly becuse the laptop n question is old and half-broken so I won't cry to much if this kills it. But has anyone had experience PackTiting digital cameras (again, sans battery)?
That should do it, any help appreciated!!
The unit should come with instructions. I believe you can inset a probe into a dense spot to verify that you're getting to temp. I'd back up my data, too.
You can treat paper, books etc in the Packtite and you can do so in plastic bags, as you are thinking I would open the bags inside the unit and place the thermometer probe (one comes with every unit) inside the items in the bag to insure you get to bed bug killing temps.
Also search "how to packtite" on youtube and you'll find videos showing how to treat different items including books.
Disclaimer: I make Packtite, Packtite Closet, Bed Bug Blue, and Bed Bug Beacon.
There are videos in the Packtite FAQs on this site which show how to treat various items also. See FAQs -- click on section about getting bed bugs out of your stuff.
