    Hi,

I've been lurking around the forum getting valuable advice and most interested in the steaming FAQ page.

A few days ago I got a mailer from my local Oreck store that advertises a small steam mop called "steam-on" that has a 3 corner swivel head for $39 as a holiday special. Then there is another one called "steam-it" for $144 that seems much better.

I have no idea at all how hot they get, and have not used one to try and get rid of bed bugs. This post is just to let people know so you can do some research.

Here is the Oreck website: http://www.oreck.com/Oreck-Steam-It
There is a long list of Q&A on the right side, but I don't see any information about how hot it gets.

However, I don't see the little steamer there at all....? Maybe call your local store.

    Hope this helps someone.

Wow! My first thought was it couldn't be a dry steamer, but it looks like it is. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this steamer.

Unfortunately, the reviews aren't very good. It sounds like it could work for floors, but is too heavy to reach anyplace higher.

As a floor steamer it may not be that practical for bed bug work given all the cracks and crevices.
When you look for a steamer for bed bugs you want something that is at least 180F. I could not find a temperature on this item and that's important, try checking with the manufacturer as they will have this data. The steamers we use Amerivap are $800 but they are used heavily and repeatedly so they are overkill for most folks. Irons and blow dryers on high heat low blow can help as well, slow and steady.
    Good luck.

I checked out steamers and found out they are good for cleaning. I was ready to spring but began reading the reviews on "personal steamers." Meanwhile I'm working on the oven with a clothes steamer. Brilliant idea in theory--the hand-helds. I'm using the TOBI for kitchen cleaning. Not especially convenient. DISCLAIMER: It was the brand I found that a neighbor tossed.
