Once again, with feeling: Packtite coming to Canada?
(14 posts)-
I feel like a broken record with this... *L* I realize Canada has been a bit focussed on other agendas politically, and maybe various official boards were ceasing operations until elections were over. Or, you know, buerocracy is just that crap. But is there any new word on when the Packtite will be available? It was February, then in a week at one point, etc. etc.
My fiance and I have multiple hotel stays in our future, including a potential honeymoon. We initially vowed not to travel until we got a packtite, but that isn't really an option this year... and we were hoping to procure a packtite to help put us at ease.

Emmm
Dh and I are in the same boat as you ...waiting and waiting and waiting ! We just got back 2 weeks ago from a 3 week numerous resort trip to the Caribbean including from where we previously had our 1st scare...lol. We were very diligent in doing room checks(as much as we could in that we didnt have removable headboards etc.) but nonetheless at one hotel dh was getting more and more bites over a 7 day period(and after the week he had about 30 or 40) while I was getting none and we were together virtually 24-7. Kept hoping it was mosquitos/ sand flies but who the heck knows. To be on the safe side we were very careful unpacking...did the dryer thing for virtually everything and we have our luggage sealed in green garbage bags for the time being. We dont need them again till Nov so we either get a packtite before then or try the outdoor baking routine in the bags and hope for the best(we are just being as careful as we can in the circumstances).
My original plan some months back was to order one and have it delivered in the US and just drive over to pick it up but unfortunately the US model is too small for some of our luggage so as I said we're waiting and waiting and waiting . -
Why not just buy one and pay for international shipping, if a Packtite truly needed? It might save you thousands of dollars later on.
I personally just spent US$98 on Packtite shipping (to Asia) but I consider that money well spent. FedEx, for example, quoted me US$500 as their cheapest option.
That said, I hear you -- and I hope Packtite goes global soon.

We could have an American relative ship it here, and we'd easily pay the cost. It's a matter of insurance. If anything ever happened and the not-CSA approved packtite was found in the house, it could void our insurance even if it's not to blame.

No BB...In our case the current model wont fit our luggage while the new model would !
Emmm...actually the info you have about insurance is not exactly correct. If your insurer told you that they have done you a disservice. Only if the packtite was the proximate cause of the fire, could they deny coverage.

Notsolucky,

I didn't know they were coming out with a new & bigger Packtite. I googled and found out
Now I feel like I got myself the wrong Packtite. The new one looks like it might be easier to take apart than the old one. Which would cost less in international shipping
For those who haven't heard, here's a link I found online that shows a pic of the supposed new Packtite:

NoBB...I dont know your situation but let me say that we dont have BB's and are looking to purchase a pt as a preventative measure since we travel frequently. If we had bb's I'd be buying whatever pt I could get my hands on. The "new" pt has been coming for quite a bit of time. We have the luxury of waiting...all of which is my way of saying if u need one now....you got the right one.

Notsolucky -- point well made : ) : )
Yeah, I mourn after the demise of my savings account even on inappropriate occasions. But now I feel better after reading your post : )

Sorry this has taken longer than we anticipated, and now it looks like I have the added pressure of a honeymoon stalled until we get this product ready :)! The biggest reason for the delay was the discovery in testing of a cool spot in January. Cool spots are unaccetable as bed bugs will find them and survive the process. Once we got that fixed our first order for parts got delivered and they were not to the specs we specified. Now we are waiting for the corrected shipment. As we have hit many bumps on the way to market with this one, I don't want to give people false hope for the third time, but I am hopeful we will get the shipment in, run one more round of confirmatory testing and sell it this month. Being married can be hard work at times, and if we delay that honeymoon much longer it could cause problems :).

Thanks for the update. Life will soon be perfect - a Canadian Packtite and the Stanley Cup in Vancouver.

Yes, indeed, Canada is a cool spot in January.
I'm hoping to be able to buy a Packtite in Canada soon, so keep us posted. I figure they will sell out fast, so I want to get in line early.

Small piece of advice....never ever ever mess with the honeymoon your wife wants. Dh learned that lesson a long time ago
Seriously though...do you have any kind of advance order list going yet ? Or any suppliers ? For those of us who have been waiting a looooooooooooong time ? Pretty please ?
-
Thank you for the update, David! I hope it pans out soon. I'll echo the line-up/list question for those of us desperate not to miss the chance to get one.
I'm not even as concerned about the honeymoon as I am the wedding itself. It's at a hotel (not on the registry and no mention of bugs on trip advisor!), and I haven't stayed at one since our outbreak-- which wasn't even hotel-related. We'd certainly love to take a vacation that isn't visiting family or camping one day. ;D Though camping is a great way to get away in a recession!
