After washing and drying all my clothes, found out that few or probably NONE of the washing machines in the laundromat have hot water, even though there is a button for hot water. I kept asking the workers there, which washers/dryers work (1/4 or more don't), didn't realize I also had to ask which ones have hot water until another customer complained that he was told there was hot water and there wasn't any in his machine....and after asking the workers repeated finally the workers admitted didn't think many or any had hot water.
My guess is not broken washers but owner simply turned off the hot water. Fortunately most of my clothing was clean and only need dryers which seem hot to me.
So be careful when you go to laudromat thinking you're getting hot water--have to somehow check (maybe put hand on window to feel if hot). I'm not saying this is true of all laudromats. Went to another one and person was using warm water and window felt warm. Went to another laudromat and workers said they were sure there was hot water. (For nonNYC folks: that laundromat charges 25 cents for each 3 minutes in the dryer!)
This scam is worse than just ripping folks off. If this is how people are trying to handle bb by washing/drying clothing on hot and then it's not hot, owners are helping to slow down the eradication of bb ....
So this is both a warning and getting it off my chest.....

You should mot be relying on the washing machine to kill bed bugs. Water must be at 140F to kill bed bugs and washers are not set that hot as water at that temperature can burn you. Instead the dryer at 120F for 30 min will call all stages of bed bugs. So not really a scam but a safety matter. Of course I'm sure there are some operators who go too low for selfish reasons.
