My girlfriend and I moved into a house in australia in August. We moved with no furniture and put a brand new mattress on the floor and borrowed some linen (from friends who would come clean if they had bugs).

She was bitten overnight and has been since. We have sprayed with insecticide, washed clothes, sprayed carpets, bought new linen, showered before and after bed and yet she is still being bitten.

There is no apparent sign of anything around the new bedframe or any of the new bed linen. I do not get bitten. She does.

She has very small bites that she feels when they occur and that take around 24 hours to come up.

We are currently visiting the UK with a mix of brand new clothes and heavily sprayed and washed clothes.

She has been bitten in brand new jeans in the UK.

She has been bitten getting stuff out of the fridge in Oz (we have a tiled kitchen floor)

She has also had phantom bites that feel like bites but never come up (after we talk about the problem).

Two pest control guys have visited and failed to find the problem (though the second one sprayed "just in case" just before we came away).

My worry is that we don't have anything any more and that the "bites", while real and visible, are psychologically echos of the original problem and not caused by anything external.

She is at her wits end and crying most nights about this. Please help.

    Hi,

If you are still in the UK please get in touch.

There is a very simple and effective way to rule out bed bugs if you are in London.

Please drop me a PM and I will talk you through a few options.

i had *bites* still occuring a few months after a bed bug dog confirmed that there was no longer an infestation in my home. from what i understand (and there is medical literature to confirm this) it is possible to continue having skin reactions several months after an infestation has ended. so it's entirely possible that it's not psychological at all, but is a continued reaction to old bites.

i would still maintain caution, however. best to have a thorough inspection of your home by a professional.

*note: during the time that i had my infestation i had to travel to visit a family member at the other end of the country. i took MANY travel precautions to avoid taking the bugs with me (which can be found in the bedbugger FAQs), but despite these precautions i still had bite reactions while i was travelling. i was miserable, afraid that i might have brought the bugs to my family. my family never did get bbs however. they were just delayed reactions to bites that had occured before i left home.

I'm in London this afternoon but fly back tomorrow. What did you have in mind and where are you based?

    Hi,

Sorry the time frame is too short to do what I had in mind but if you call my office this afternoon I will talk you through some steps you can try at home.

With the bites after new clothes I am not 100% convinced its bed bugs.

I too have this ongoing biting and I even feel the bites but cannot see what is biting me (even with a 8x lupe). The biting started 3-4 weeks ago after wearing some ankle socks (just bought them from Daiso (Japanese dollar store). I noticed a itchy sensation (like if the socks had be wool). I took off the socks and itched and noticed an area underneath my ankle was red.

Monday I was walking and noticed biting and when I looked at my legs I noticed slight raised red blotches on the backside of my legs. I put some Mango & Cocoa butter lotion that I mixed a few essential oils (Neem and Tea Tree oil) to heal the bites. Late when I got home I put more of this lotion on my bite areas and noticed the swabs coloring. I looked at the swabs with my 8x lupe and noticed little black specks.

On my bed there has been something that might be bed bug dirt (droppings) but no streaks going down like can be seen in bed bug pictures on the web. Although I have had what could be mistaken as a possible infestation but then again I've had this on my futon for years so it doesn't seem to be bed bugs.

I went to the Doctor Yesterday and he was totally convinced that it was bed bugs and he gave me this story about bed bugs biting in 3 bites in a small area. I did have some bites that had that similarity but I wasn’t convinced about the verdict that it was bed bugs because I can feel when I am being bitten.

I happened to see a guy that lives in my building and told him about my bug bites and he told me he had the same thing that I did for 2 months. Nether his wife or his 5 yrs old daughter got the bites. He was just as puzzled as I was what caused the infestation.
