[b]Hello everyone... I am new to the forum... I have posted on previous forums on this site b/c I did not know how to create a new one... so now I do... and here's my story on this these dreadful bugs..
I have been having bites for like 2-3 weeks... It started off with just one bite.. I thought it was just a mosquito bite...it itched a lot and swelled... so i would just put ice on it... and go on with my day... my partner didn't get bit... so i thought no big thing about it. A week passed and i would get another bite this time twice on my arm... amd twice on my leg I keep thinking it's a mosquito in the house... i can't seem to find and kill. My partner hasnt gotten biten at all. This past week she left to Florida with our daughter...
I noticed while they were gone I am gotten a lot of bites in the morning when I wake up... all over my leg... my arms... my hands... my fingers... my back... the back of my ears and the back of my head........That's when i researched on begbugs and I compared my bites to other peoples bites online... and they looked exactly the same! ...i thought it wouldn't be true... so i just ignored it that day... until that same night... I was fixing my bed because I work an overnight shift so i was taking a nap....... when i went to go move my shorts from the pillow... I saw one!! I knew it was a bedbug because of the pics I saw! ...Oh my god i caught a panic attack because i have a bug phobia... i can't stand them at all...
I had to go to work... so when I came home in the morning I took off all the linens put them in garbage bags... I checked the mattress and box springs..I didn't find anything...it makes it seem like i'm lieing... or that what I have is not bedbugs.. I know what I saw...I live in New York City, so i called New York City Housing Authority and they said they were going to call me in 48 hours to make an appointment for someone to do a treatment... in the mean time... I don't want to sleep in that bed... i'm terrified... I am sleeping on the floor b/c I dont want to sleep on the couch and bring them there...
I don't know what to do...
Since I live in the city... I thought i might've gotten them through the trains because it's always ful of people and everyone is all on top of each other... and since NYC has been suffering from bedbugs... I figured that might've been it... I dont know. I have so many questions.... to ask...
1. If I don't sleep on that bed will they go to other beds? I don't want them going to my daughters bed.
Or going to anywhere in the apartment...2. Do they stay on you? or bite through clothing? cuz i have been feeling itchy and tingly all over...
3. Is those treatments going to work?
4. Do I have to get rid of any of my stuff?
I am super stressed...especially since i'm dealing with this alone... cause my partner is in FL.
I just don't know what to do... I've been stuck on the computer because I don't want to do anything... in that room... I'm sleeping on the floor... well I am gonna sleep on the floor cuz I have not slept........Please anyone... any advice would be gladly appreciated...

i am far from an expert, but i will respond for peace of mind

it is advised not to change your sleeping habits as it will eventually cause your bedbugs to move to find food. but I understand fully why you would not too. In my not professional opinion, take a night and sleep on your couch to get some much needed sleep
2. Do they stay on you? or bite through clothing? cuz i have been feeling itchy and tingly all over...
to the best of my knowledge no. but if you have loose clothing they can get you that way. they feed between 3 mins to 10 mins depending on size and then they piss off somewhere, they do not like light and adjust their feeding habits based on your sleeping habits. if you sleep in the day because you work at night they will be more active during your sleeping patterns3. Is those treatments going to work?
ask the exterminator what process they use, and if it is specific to bedbugs. more then one treatment is sometimes necessary4. Do I have to get rid of any of my stuff?
This is a natural reaction but is highly not necessary and not advised. if you disturb them, they will migrate and by moving your stuff around you can make the situation worse, and spread them to other people when your neighbor picks up your mattress from outside because it looks fine. In extreme cases your exterminator will advise you to remove items from your home. Ask them what to do based on your situation
The crawling and itching all over is a physiological response due to stress. Your mind is playing tricks on you right now. You will feel that for awhile until your mind comes to grip with what is happening. Your situation is stressful, and feels overwhelming but bedbugs do not carry diseases. Think of it like an ant infestation. If you found ants it would be overwhelming but you would know they are harmless and if you kicked their nest around they find somewhere else in your home to go.
Education is your most powerful tool. Trust me , I have been exactly in your shoes and made mistakes. I have an 8 month old and I threw out my entire apartment. at 3000$ expense that was not necessary.
