New Pasttime: Looking For BB Bites on Fellow Bus Riders
(9 posts)-
Now that it's summer and many people on NYC buses are bare armed and legged, it dawned on me to do my own little " study ." : Do any people in my area of the bus have what could be bb bites? I actually saw a few people who had what might be bb bites. I haven't so far counted the folks, or developed a scoring system, but I'm thinking about it. Last year, of course, I knew nothing about bbs. Unfortunately, this summer I know too much about them. And now that I do, I am interested in finding an empirical method to see how bad things really are in NYC. I hear they're pretty bad. If they are, we should be able to see the telltale bb bites on many people. Anybody else interested in counting bb bites in their city?

LOL, sounds like me. When I see someone with a red mark, welt, etc, on their arm or leg....I wonder if it's a bb. It's hard to tell for sure though cause their are so many different looking bites that people can get depending on their reaction to them!

I'm doing the same in Milano's subway....

EffeCi, Do you have any informal findings? Jason1, I agree bb bites manifest differently. One sign that I am particulary interested in is the 2 , 3, or more bites often in a line, or some similar grouping, the classic "breakfast, lunch, and dinner."

In NYC it can be pretty easy to spot out-of-towners (especially in midtown). Many a time I have glanced at the bare arms and legs of tourists and thought, "Uh huh."

Ha ha! yes I do this too. my area of Brooklyn is infested pretty bad. Last fall I counted 5 or 6 discarded mattresses on one block.
As far as bites, I see them all the time. red spots on the face and arms when i am on the subway. Just the other day I saw a neighbor with a bite on her face. The strange thing is that my neighbors next door, who are horribly infested, dont display any bites at all. not any, on the whole family.

Of course, I did. I started this "game" two weeks ago, after I saw a young girl with BBs bites on boh arms. I take the subway almost everyday, and almost everyday I see someone who' s probably BBS bitten.
Discarded mattresses are regular in my area, and they regularly disappear in less than 12 hours, or are "exchanged" with others in worst conditions... at least more then half of them are clearly BBs infested or show BBs signes.
The greater part of my discarded mattresses pictures collection comes from a range of 1500 feets around my home, and my upstair's neighbour had a big infestation a few months ago (and, yes, I exterminated them...phew...). -
Over the last few years, in NYC, it seemed that more and more women went bare-legged (no hosiery), even in cooler weather, even in offices. This summer, while short-shorts are also in, I get the feeling that I'm seeing more colored and dark hose than prior years. Wondering if this, too will be the result of growing BB prevalence.

Could be. Nobody wants to flaunt bb bites at work. They are a dark little secret.
