    Hi:

We discovered we had bbs - it will be 3 weeks ago Monday. For approx. 2-3 weeks we thought we had a mosquito.

Thus far we have 1. dusted with diotamaceous earth; 2. bought a low pressure steam cleaner; 3. been reviewed and treated by 2 PCOs (my landlord's and my own - with full disclosure to both with respect to what approach they were using); 4. bagged, covered, discarded etc. what was reasonable to do.

Both PCOs said this was a mild infestation - the only sign were about 4-5 feces spots in each of the 4 corners of my wood (soon to be discarded) bed. Eventually, when we were dusting with DE, we dismantled the bed and have thus far discovered 3 instars 1st, 2nd, 3rd stage.

We figured, sort of like we agree with Paul Krugman about the economy, you cannot over-respond, but you certainly can under-respond. So that's what we did. This site and NY v Bedbugger has been invaluable. I basically just followed the advice that was given. For the past 4 days I have not had any bits. I am not so naieve as to think they are gone, but with every treatment the problem has diminished (particularly the steaming). From a maximum of about 20 bites to 2-3 to 0.

Luckily I specialized in ancient history which is mostly military history. It's clear this is siege warfare and my husband and I are in for the long haul.
