New edition of Stephen L. Doggett's Code of Practice
(9 posts)-
It seems like there's a draft second edition of the Australian Code of Practice For the Control of Bed Bug Infestations. Link is PDF. However, the site appears to be down.
Hopefully the links will work later, including this one, a PDF list of the modifications.

Wow, this is groundbreaking. It has a new section titled "Bed Bugs in the Disadvantaged" that discusses intractable infestations among the poor and socially disadvantaged and the attendant ethical considerations for a PCO.
Goodness, why are we so far behind the Australians? This makes me so sad.

It's wonderful, nomo.
I am still looking through it all.
I always wonder if the Aussies had a noticeable epidemic a bit before we did, (or, in fact, an epidemic they simply noticed before we did), hence the headstart on analysis and solutions.
See this Doggett classic (2004) on the rise of bed bugs in Oz.

Hi,
Just finished it and in time to start looking at the UK version which should be hitting a server near you in October.
I think its a well balanced document that sets out the need for all parties to work together on the problem. It is also worth noting that from a quick analysis of the chemical recommendations the products available in the Australia and closer to the US than the EU list.
The summary is also worth pointing out illustrating the economic impact, if you want ammunition to get peoples attention this will help a lot. They have calculated the impact $100 million AUD estimated costs is a significant impact on any economy.

I agree, David.
As I noted in the blog post at http://bedbugger.com, it's worth pointing out to those who balk at the idea of bed bugs being a health concern, that Doggett is a medical entomologist in a hospital in Australia...

great read thanks nomo! It talks about protect-a-bed covers being washable.
-
National Allergy covers are washable too. But what's the point-- we can't remove them!!!
-
NOBUGS:
Both being washable is even better. Some people have expressed reticence at being able to wash them--while sealed on the bed, so I guess they can wash (i.e. gently scrub while on the bed ). They can/may rest a little easier with this knowledge.
