On Thursday I received a notice from my apartment management company saying my neighbors have bedbugs and that as a precautionary measure I needed to prepare my apartment for the exterminators to come as well. I talked to the manager and he said the exterminator didn't find anything in my room but I don't know how closely they looked. My apartment is set up that the main room where my bed is sharing a wall with the infected apartment. I have a dressing room separate from the main room where all my clothes are that is sharing a wall with a noninfected apartment. My first reaction was that since the closet wasn't close to the infected apartment and my apartment was okay, I could just box up most of my clothes and put the items I planned on wearing in the next three weeks bagged in plastic bins. I washed and bagged my bedding though.

Every day now though I get more paranoid that maybe the bed bugs have spread to my apartment and they're just not noticeable yet. I'm close to throwing out my nonplastic furniture and luggage just in case. I want to put all my clothes through the dryer and re-bag them. 1) I don't know if I'm being paranoid and throwing out my furniture is unnecessary and 2) Is there anything I can do to help prevent the bedbugs from spreading to my apartment?

    Hello

One, you could get a monitor that would greatly help you with peace of mind, and catching an early detection should they spread over through the apartments.

Spreading through apartments has been known to happen so if I were you I would begin by:

caulking cracks and crevices, especially anything attached to the infested apartment

Get a monitor such as this:

Inspect your sleeping area as closely as you can looking for fecal traces, cast skins or bugs

    Hi...

I hate to freak you out even more but that is what happened to me. My entire complex is infected. There are more and more mattress and furniture at the dumpsters every day... Be very greatful that you have a property manager that cares, it took me a nasty letter and several phone calls before an exterminator showed up and even then he didnt treat because the office didnt tell us to prepare properly....They didnt even notify ANY of the tenants, I found out from my neighbor who had heard about it through the maintance man.. Low an behold we found a bug about a month later. Not to mention they are not treating all of the apartments, only some of them. I feel like the only way to get out of this mess is to move but even still, I take the chance of taking them with me. This entire BB issue has become a pandemic in the town that I live in in Maryland. I went to Kohls today and noticed that the guy at the counter had bites all over him, and the hotel up the road from me was seen hauling out mattresses and tables.
