Sorry for the long post, but I'm desperate.... I have 3 very young children, a husband in denial, and a large dog (no fleas) and this has dragged on for 3+ months. PLEASE help!

I live in a very old townhouse and got bedbugs from our next door neighbors, confirmed by a K9 who uses a 2 dog detection method, but never saw bugs. My sons mattress encasement had 4 dark grey fecal looking marks. We find "pepper dust" regularly. K9 marked his bed, and he & I were the ones getting the most bites. I went into OCD cleaning mode. We had heat treatment in Oct, by an exterminator who had only been doing heat for a month at that point, but 2 weeks later the bites returned. Our neighbors seem to be successfully chemically treated.

We had another home treatment in Nov. Exterminator did 2nd floor by heat, and chemical crack & crevice everywhere else in my 3 story townhouse. He said it wasn't necessary to bag & treat our belongings/toys on the other floors because bugs from downstairs would migrate upstairs and come into contact with the chemicals. That doesn't seem like a full-proof method to me! My bites were back a week later, my husband had blood marks on his sleeping t-shirts again. My 3 children now get sporadic bug bites - 1 to 2 bites/ week, mainly on shoulders and faces. My bites are more frequent. Some with a red puncture center, and some not. Our bites rarely itch. Many in a triangle or line pattern, but lots are solo too. Typically on my back, forearms, or upper chest. I sleep totally covered in clothes. Now my parents, who live 2 hrs away in PA and have helped us during this time, are starting to have bug bites...but as of yet have found no bugs.

My exterminator brings up the possibility of bird mites or rodent mites. We've had more blood marks on bedshirts, a few dark grey marks on the pillow encasements/sheets, but he's dismissed them. (If anything could be worse than bedbugs, it seems parasitic bird mites are) He sprays the attic, but has seen nothing. He has dealt with bird mites before and said he's looked for them the last time he was at our house too, and saw none. Nothing on the glue traps. No nest or rodents have been found, but again, we are in a connected townhome. We have a dog and a lot of birds & squirrels in our yard but never had a one in the house. I live in Maryland and it's cold here now. My exterminator agreed to come back and do a final heat treatment on January 5th and follow up with a chemical treatment on January 7th. I am literally going crazy trying to figure this out.

    Questions:
I wonder if our bedbug infestation has remained light because all of our treatments keep killing off live bugs but not eggs, which is why it hasn't gotten worse but keeps coming back? I also wonder if it was bird mites, why it hasn't gotten worse - apparently they infest more rapidly and worse than bedbugs? And will the heat treatment kill mites also? I am even willing to believe this is psychosomatic - but for all sake, how do I find out for sure? And why do my kids keep getting bites and my parents 2 states away?

We can't have another K9 for 30 days after the final chemical treatment on January 7th... That puts us at Feb! I AM SO BURNED OUT... ANXIOUS, and DEPRESSED. ANY solid advice is appreciated!

I can understand your depression. I'm dealing with the stress of it too AND I have a 7 month old. I'm so stressed out he will get bit that I am barely sleeping. I had a heat treatment done a week ago and this morning I woke up with bites I believe to be bb bites on my thigh. I'm so upset I have no idea what to do. The Exterminator I used guarantees a second treatment in case the first one didn't work. I'm praying it did but the bite I received this morning is just too obvious to ignore.

Pm me if you need a shoulder to cry on...
