I had bedbugs in late July. My apartment was treated by a PCO three times in August/September, and a bedbug dog found no trace of them on September 11. While I have not received any 'definitive' bites since the first ones in July, it has been impossible to tell whether I've received new bites or my skin has just become extremely sensitive. I am seeing a dermatologist this week -- I know she won't be able to say whether a bite is a bedbug bite or another bug, but I'm hoping she can tell me whether the itchy spots I have are bites at all.

I'm almost positive that I was the one who brought the bedbugs in, and I knew it almost immediately (had just returned from a trip), so it's unlikely that they spread to other apartments in my building, although I know it's a possibility. I spoke with all of my neighbors and they said they had not seen or felt any signs of bedbugs, but for my sake would be fine with having their apartments inspected. The landlord clearly does not want to pay for this, even though he said he would, and therefore nothing has come of it.

I've been daydreaming about Vikaning my stuff (which was all laundered/carefully inspected and is all still sealed up) and moving, although I don't know how I'll afford it. I've recently had an idea for a plan before resorting to that: Assuming the dermatologist says my skin is just sensitive and they aren't bites (so, assuming my apartment is bug-free), I could unpack all of my stuff and see what happens. If I don't get any more bites, then I can finally go back to normal life. If I get new bites, then I'll Vikane and move. Even though I carefully inspected all of the items before bagging them, it's hard to believe that one of these little ninjas couldn't have slipped past me as I flipped through the pages of the five hundredth book at 2 am as I prepped for the PCO.

Does this sound like a good plan? How long should I wait before trying it? Assuming the 55 day rule, my last treatment was August 21, so I'm approaching two months now. Should I wait longer? One of the PCO technicians mentioned that bedbugs rarely live past 4 months except in lab conditions. Should I try to wait 4 months just in case? Should I buy a packtite?
