"Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite"......to bad they didn't give us a clue how to stop them from biting

I moved to VA from CO at the end of January to start a new life away from an abusive ex that just would not let go, I had issues on the way and the trip took longer then was counted on and I lost my apartment I had on hold. I spent the first week looking for an apartment while stuck in a hotel, I found a place my price range and that fit me well a small eff built into a larger house with its on entrance better yet its in the attic I love attic apartments with all their cubbyholes and character....

Learned from the landlord he had been trying to rent it for 2 months just could not get it rented, one couple even stayed the night and left the next day never to be heard from they had not paid rent as they where waiting for money from they family to pay it the next day. being very new to the area I saw a bug here an there out of the corner of my eye this was about Jan 30th....I remember thinking they have odd looking roaches in VA ....and that I would have to make sure to bomb asap....couple days later I started waking my skin feeling on fire itching from head to toe looked in the mirror and was red but it went away after I soaked in a hot bath but I could not get any sleep and I am an insomniac anyway but even this was to much I was getting less then my normal 3 hours a night

about 2 days later I was out shopping with a friend trying on some clothes and she was like what are all those marks on the small of you back....I had no marks where I could see them this soon changed....I did not see any bugs but when i sat at the comp it felt like something was jumping off the rug on to me so I figured fleas the LL did say that one couple had a dog...

I fogged....it got worse....I showed my LL the bites and he was like that looks more like a rash not a bite bugs "don't" bite in a pattern like that I think you just got into something, to prove his point that night I am sitting at the comp and actually while awake have a massive allergic reaction a friend that was watching my cam while we chatted saw me turn beet red ....he rushed over and took me to the hospital, doctor told me it was an allergic reaction at a vascular level something I had ingested or breathed in had caused it.....I had been getting bitten for at least 10 weeks by my count looking back it was about March 30th I went to the hospital.

Still unaware of bedbugs I had saved up the money to buy a new bed and get the old full size sofa sleeper that I had been sleeping on that the landlord had so kindly provided for me... I had contributed its torture chamber like comfort to my lack of sleep...and it was but in more ways then I knew at the time, I went all out see the way the stairs are here a full size box springs and a queen would not have fitted into my cubby ...I bought me a sweet pillow topped top of the line massive king size bed taking up almost all my space but oh so decadent...

15 days of steroids to stop my body from reacting to this unknown allergy....1.5 months of test and doctor bills and allergy meds....Hell is what it had become and you know the thought of bed bugs had crept into my mind once and I dismissed it, I had decided I was just imagining the feeling of the bites after all until about 5 days after the steroids the bites had actually stopped.....

I was checking my email and saw on yahoo a thing about bed bugs....had a picture of it.....hmmm that is not cool it looked like that odd roach I saw....2 days later I saw one and I had tried to get it in a ziplock bag to see if I could figure out what it was but I had to kill it to not let it escape, I caught one later....looked up bed bugs saw their pictures ....hmm its a bed bug no doubt. took it to the LL ....

He argued with me it wasn't a bed bug when I showed him proof online ....he claimed I brought them in, when I told him I had never had bites till I moved in, his words where....well I can't do anything about them unless I force you to move, told him I was going to get encasement bags and would expect him to cover the charges he said nothing over 50 as you can get plastic bags for the mattresses at uhaul cheap. You know I was just to drained to deal with him and started finding me a place to move while I gathered the info on how to prevent them from coming with me.... I dusted bagged and sealed everything I dont need....which is thankfully 90% of my stuff and thankfully thats not much due to the move and everything fit into a ford explorer. Dusted the mattress and box springs with DE and bought top of the line encasement to wrap them in... I was still getting bit ...I know they are infested in this house he may not want to admit having them downstairs where he lives but he has to have them if they are so bad up here....

I have been bitten so many times my hips, legs and forearms look like they have a perma rash on them. I found this forum and read about the spray that could be purchased at walmart or Walgreen I ran to my walmart they did not have what was described but I found a spider spray by hot shot with the same ingredient Lambda-Cyhalthrin 30% and got me some more off with deet as that seems to help as well not kill no but little less bites, no bites in 2 days now after I soaked the areas in my place and put DE around the feet of the bed.

the swelling on my arms and other areas are going down you can see how many bites there actually are, My landlord was shocked when I announced I had found a place and was moving, I think he actually thought I would deal with it on my own or something just as stupid, btw my landlord put that old couch in the shed out in his yard .....I have gone to the health department and shown them the dead bugs and advised them of the issue have not heard anything yet but I hope they make him deal with it....

I would not wish a bed bug infestation on my worse enemy, its maddening, you get to the point even when they are not biting your sure they are and the slightest itch has you checking for bites and looking for bugs running to hide full of your blood....

4 months and counting as a feast for bedbugs
