My housemate and I believe we have had bedbugs since August.

We are getting very few bites (one or two every one or two nights) but we have attempted self-treatment twice in the last few months, so we may be keeping the population down.

However, I'm beginning to doubt we have bedbugs at all. For one, we have had two inspectors to the house, and both of them have failed to find any sign of bedbug activity.

For another, my bite marks don't seem to follow the typical bedbug pattern.

My understanding is that bedbugs prefer to bite areas where your skin is exposed, yet my bite marks seem to only appear in the places that would be hard for bedbugs to get to. I wear a lot of clothes to bed, and in the past two weeks, the only places I have gotten bitten are on my bottom (under my tighty-whities) about 5 times, and once on my shoulder blade (under my shirt).

I have read that fleas may prefer to bite where clothing is the tightest.

Bedbug/flea experts, what are your thoughts on this?

It's impossible to know by bites and bbs will bite you under your clothes. If I trust my undies, they mave bitten me through them. And for every typical bite, there is another atypical bite--on the same body.

However, it's more intersting to me that you've had inspections and got nothing. You may want to try passive monitoring and see if you catch any bugs or signs of them.

There's something in the FAQs about passive monitoring (http://bedbugger.com/2006/10/22/faq-what-are-bed-bugs-do-i-have-them-what-else-could-be-causing-this/), but the two best known are Climbups & BBAlert. They can't be used together, and both have their positives. I used the BBAlert and feel good about having something there for harborage, as I've decluttered a lot and I can see an infestation being scattered because of it.
