Day two in the new condo and all is well. My new furniture, including couch which is comfy as hell, mattresses, frame and pillows came too. I got a new computer chair, computer desk and coffee tables for my living room. My new bedding was washed immediately upon entering the condo. We set up the bed, and I put a plastic cover over the boxspring (for extra safety). I put an allergy zipper protector over the top mattress, along with a mattress pad that came with the bed on top. Then the nice new clean sheets along with fleece blanket went on top. Wow, a full night's rest, in a nice new clean bed. It was absolutely devine. I bought a vaccum today, and will be cleaning the condo tomorrow.

My books, pictures and paperwork are being stored at a friends acerage in plastic bins and vac packs. I decided on taking my piano, computer and tv with me. I also treated all my kitchen ware, and most dishes have been washed in the new dishwasher before putting away.

I've got a few boxes left to go through, and won't unpack the movies until I have shelving unit. Most of my laundry is washed, only five more bags to go. Since the clothes have been bagged for several weeks, (since early May), I put the clothes in the dryer on the hottest setting for over an hour each and have decided to hang them up. I feel a little obsessed with cleaning.

I broke down today at the old apartment, watching people dumpster dive, and people in the old building remove items from the bin. I had thrown away an old dresser, which was in good condition, but possibly infested. An East Indian woman picked it up. I told her, don't take it, it has bugs in it. But she didn't seem to understand. Another Asian woman, went to take the other set of drawers, my boyfriend told her there were bugs in it, and her reply was, "aren't they getting rid of the bugs tomorrow?" We had just taken everything to the dumpster, and by the time we were at our last load, ready to go, two families were bringing items from the dumpster back into the building. SIGH. People just don't care - sign or no signs.

So while I've done my part in preventing spreading of the bugs, I literally broke down in tears as these people dug my things out of the trash and reinfested the almost exterminated building. I also learned management let someone move into the apartment next door, which had been infested and not completely treated. But what can I do? I warned people, I fought, I got out. The best thing to do now is go on living life as normal as possible and enjoy the nice condo, and hope that itching will eventually go away...I seem to itch at the mention of "bugs" these days, guess I will be like that for some time now, I am scratching as I write this.

    Gypsy,
Good luck with the new,bb free condo! Glad life is slowly returning to normal. It's such a shame about the dumpster diving old building.I'm sure LL would not be pleased, paying for treatments and people keep bringing them back in.What needs to be done is a tenant committee should be formed for each building,or a rider in the lease that no furniture comes in out of the dumpster. But then there is the enforcement issue, which would be impossible. It's like protecting people from themselves, when does it stop and why don't most have any common sense anymore? Anyway, good luck again.

You did your best to help them...some may have just dumped the stuff and ran.

You deserve a medal for trying (along with a bb-free apartment!)

Thanks guys. Heh, I'm still inspecting every little piece of fuzz. I bought a really nice bag vaccum, dirt devil. I've also discovered a new way to take care of laundry having my own machines now. Clothes I have worn, gets stored immediately in the washer, or in a plastic ziploc until I have enough for a load. I've been washing all my clothes from the old place, bag by bag. I wash everything, throw in the dryer for a really long time and it gets hot, then methodically fold each item one by one, and immediately go and hang them, or store them on the shelving unit. Nothing hits the floor, except the occassional towel which gets hung up on the towel rack. So let's hope the obsessiveness works for awhile

I downsized a ton of clothes, only took about ten ziplock bags with me. Four bags of laundry to go, then it's all done. Whew. I need a vacation.

Five days in....I'm still checking every day, getting rid of more boxes, have discarded all cardboard boxes now, just three more plastic bins to go through. Afraid to unpack books until I figure out how I will treat them. What about using a microwave? Or a hair dryer?

My BF washed his kilt in the tub, left it in for an hour on the hottest water. I may boil some water tonight and put it in the tub and re-soak the kilt. We used the hair dryer on the kilt to dry it. There are lots of pockets they could hide in.

Debating on whether or not the itching is caused by the previous's owners cat hair which seems to be everywhere. I invested in a new vacuum and started on the drapes. Ick....I'm hoping as time goes on I will have to post on here less and less... victory will be mine, I'm stubborn as hell.
