Hi everyone,
Yesterday, in a frenzy caused by asthma and general illness due to diatomaceous earth and pesticide, and owing to my need to get out before picking up my new (used) car I need for work this Friday, I moved out of my apartment and gave my landlord 30 days notice. I am in a place I couldn't have my dog so he will need to be rehomed. My partner is still at our old place, looking herself for a room to rent with her cats, or she may come here if we can find a temporary home for her cats (I am seriously allergic). She is doing a thorough vacuum and steam and spray before we leave and that's the best we can do.
I laundered only a few bags of clothing yesterday in the dryer for an hour, etc., including coat, hat and sneakers. My sneakers got ruined so I had to buy new shoes. New cell as I lost mine anyway. My partner is No Pest Stripping our computer and hard drive and cd player. I boiled my id's and keys. That's all I took aside from work equipment which has never bene in the infested area (bagged airtight in our attic since I got it a week ago). And I even laundered the work laptop bag just in case--it got so hot it almost melted, and I accidentally destroyed my air card.
I am concerned about her moving. I will have to return to help with that but know the decon protocol and have left clothes and shoes there I can wear when helping her move (with NOT my car). I will have to drive her a few places, but she knows to dry her coat, etc. before getting in my car.
I am washing all bed linens here regularly until this is all over, and keeping my clothes in plastic bags until they are laundered several more times. If I continue to get bites, I will have to research whether or not I got mites from the bb infestation. I woke up last night at 5am itching and nearly had a heart attack, but I know this is likely psychological; there is no problem here. I've gone through this before staying with friends the first few nights I don't sleep and my old bites flare up.
We're renting rooms now rather than getting a whole new nice apt. just in case (and I have a free place to stay), we are testing the NO Pest Strips and bathing our cats and moving them with her as she can tolerate pesticides. She also wants to keep her cd's w/o cases and our dishes and just wash them. I'm too paranoid for all of that. I bought 5 plastic bins, duct tape and contractor bags yesterday, found a storage unit and said, "let's move on."
Our landlord is refusing to treat. I moved out early in part so he could bring someone in and he isn't. I'm not sure, since we brought them in (accidentally) if we can withhold rent for March if he refuses to treat. I am certain he'll take our security deposit.
Please pray for me, and for my partner and our animals that we all come out ok.
Thanks bedbugger~

This seems impossible, as all I brought from my place was laundered clothes, but last night I woke up itching and this morning awoke to two fresh bites on my shoulder, in a row. The only thing I can think is either these are old bites flaring up (at 4 am) or I did not dry my clothes long enough. In a rush, we only dried everything 64 minutes and packed the dryer in the laundromat and one of the loads had been washed first as well. It was all dry and warm when it was done but when I put my pajama pants on that night I felt creepy crawlies. I had to rush to meet up with who I'd be staying with or else we would have dried the wet load much longer. Anyway, it's a pit stop into moving into our own place again (we think we found a cheap one) but it's the last thing I wanted to have happen to the woman I'm staying with. My partner is still at our old place, packtiting, no pest stripping and storing away and we'll obviously be more methodical when we move, I'm so broken down over everything, she said, just let me do it, so ok fine. I'm exhausted and she's right, I can't think straight losing sleep and itching.
I also have my new (used) car now and so am not going into my apartment and now must be careful leaving here as well. I just want a break from all the hygeine, it's insanity. In fact, I never want to be this hygenic ever, ever again. I'm going to become a complete slob when I no longer have these (who lives in the woods and buys things straight from the factory).
I am considering mites as a possibility. I've had these things long enough one might have hitched a ride on the bug. So I have to go to the doctor. I also, a few days ago, got a horrible non-itchy rash all over my breasts and have a bad cough, so I'm just run down and ill and frustrated. In our place, we put carpet tape down and I did see a tiny red nymph thing on it but figured it was a bed bug nymph. I really hope it wasn't a bird mite. I can't tolerate chemicals, I'll die. I also hope I don't have some weird mysterious illness like Lupus, that kind of craziness runs in my family, or that my Lymes isn't reactivated, but my partner has bites as well as my dog. The stupid rash showed up after my partner sprayed Bedlam, and she didn't even spray it in our bedroom. I am not a person who can have bed bugs, just at all. The DE has given me terrible asthma that is improving away from it, but I am living in a nightmare. The only thing I tolerate is steam treatment.
Oh, yeah, my local news channel is doing a show on my bed bug troubles. Eh. I just want them gone and now don't even trust laundering! Those dryers get HOT! I'm laundering everything again here and throwing the sheets in too. I dunno, what a nightmare. I'm ready to go naked now...and have decided to forego all exterminator advice and bed bug supply store advertising and proceed with common sense insect killing protocol. Boil my clothes. Add Borax and Ammonia to the laundry, or just throw it all out. Any other advice to ENSURE our clothes are bed bug and possibly mite free?
I may do that and stay with my parents, but then my partner would have no home as she can't bring her cats along (and they pretty much are her world), and I'd lose my job. Sucks these things have torn our living arrangement apart. When will this f-ing ridiculousness end?
thanks for listening~

it's official--they came with me to my temporary stop over place. new bite this morning, definitely not an old one. all I brought from my place was laundered clothes in fresh bags. Apparently not dried long enough or something.

Any possibility your stop over place has a bugs of any kind?

It's possible. The woman did just get released from a facility. But it seems unlikely, she sleeps on a different floor, gets no bites, and I got bitten the first night. It really seemed that my pajama pants were creepy crawly before I even went to bed, but of course I told myself I was paranoid. I think I was right. We dried one washed load for 64 minutes, but what if it took 45 minutes to dry, was overstuffed, etc.? Next time I know to dry for two hours when clothes are wet and not to put too much into a machine. Also, the laundromat we go to does not have hot water, so the drier was the only line of defense we had. We go there b/c they have the hottest driers, the stuff burns your hands when it comes out and it's the closest and we had no car. As I recall, the washed load did not get as hot as that this time. The woman needed my help immediately though so we had to rush.
We also transported my laundry bags in my friend's car, who swears she doesn't have bed bugs but gets mysterious bites, and whose car the vikane failed in. I think the only reason she hasn't seen bed bugs explode is that she stays in a place where her heat is with space heaters, and it's often below 65 degrees. Her cats are itching though. Once spring hits, I think she'll come to understand she is infested.
Now that I have my own car, we can transport our stuff from the laundromat, and not use that one. We're likely moving into a place that has a washer/dryer anyway. I'm thinking of using a steam iron as well. I'm skeptical about our winter coats/hats etc. and really wish it was warmer I'd just toss all that stuff.
i'm super depressed and really am trying hard to take precautions with this new car which was really hard yesterday when my partner was projectile vomiting from the stomach flu and I had to rush her to the ER. As I'm calling 911 for the nearest hospital I'm having her change clothes before we go, it's ridiculous. The stress is getting to both of us. I'll have to be careful until Mar. 1st, when we move. We are withholding rent for March as our landlord refuses to treat.
And did I mention our local news channel is doing a story on all of this?

sorry to hear that this continues to happen to you. It sounds like you did everything right. Have you seen a bb at your stop over place? or just got the bites? I would love to see the piece on the news of your story. Are you from NY? Post a link when its done.

yes, Buffalo,
I will post a link when it airs. I am sure a lot of people will be surprised to see I'm not some weird 50 year old with snaggleteeth and chin hairs making sh*t up. As well as to see my bites. Ah well, a couple of good lawsuits will straighten all of this out in the end.
