After two weeks with no bites, my 6-year-old daughter woke up the other night with 11 scattered all over her body, not really in clusters. I immediately figured the bed bugs had struck again, but when I turned the light on to treat her bites, there was a big mosquito sitting right there on her bed. So my question is: Is it possible that a mosquito (or maybe two, if there was another that I didn't see) could inflict all those bites at once? Or is it more likely that it was bed bugs, or a combination? We've never actually seen a single sign of bed bugs other than bites, but a K9 inspection 2 weeks ago did have a few hits. I would write more but my arm is in a full cast, so it's difficult enough to type this out one-handed.
    Thanks very much...

I don't know what you have going on in your place since I have not seen it but .. I'll tell you, if you looked at my son right now .. you would think I have Bed Bugs ... and I don't. He was attacked by mosquitos .. so anything is possible. Did the K9 team confirm findings of the dog? or his the dog so great ... they don't need to look?

KQ - unfortunately I had not read enough on this wonderful site when we first suspected bed bugs 3 weeks ago, or I would have just gone straight to Boot-a-Pest for help. But instead we called M&M and had the K9 inspection, which unfortunately did not include a visual inspection as well (wasn't thinking straight enough to ask about it at the time). The dog hit on shelves in my daughter's room, a couple of spots along the baseboards in her room, as well as a basket in our bedroom and our mattress. I did my own inspection of those sites and could find absolutely nothing. Surprisingly, M&M suggested that we treat on our own, so we immediately threw away the basket, put all mattresses and box springs in protect-a-beds, soaked all the "hit" areas with Sterifab, vacuumed, washed/dried all we could, caulked our beds and shelves, and powdered withe DE. We didn't do anything at all to the living room (where there were no hits), other than a visual inspection of the couch, mostly because I broke my elbow just two days later and can't do much. The last bites my daughter had had were two days before the inspection (my husband and I had never had any bites, and I know I would have reacted if I'd had any, because I was bit in a hotel once long ago). We had told ourselves that if she got bit again, we would go ahead and launch a full scale extermination, because she really suffers from the bites (also from mosquito bites, exactly the same), but since I saw the mosquito now I'm not so sure what to do.
Since we've done all this crappy work on our own, is it too late to call you in? You have no idea how much I wish I'd known to call you from the get-go.

One more question about bites - many sites on the internet say that bed bug bites don't usually have a red dot in the center, but on here the FAQ's say that they can. Is there a definitive way to know what is causing the bites? My daughter's bites have a clear puncture mark.

And is it at all possible that a bed bug dog could have 5 false hits, or is that a pretty sound diagnosis?
