MITES!
(7 posts)-
Well, after 10 days of horror as my mind reeled with possibilities, I believe we have found the problem! I've had 3 PCO's out in the last week and the one today posed a possibility! We've searched high and low for bb's and had no other indications other than the bites I received last week. We put out sticky traps, put double sided tape around the bed and caught nothing. The PCO said he has not treated bed bugs in this area for 12 years, but that he has treated for mites! We have bird nests around our house and one right outside our bedroom balcony window! Once the birds vacate the mites often migrate in. And, the bites I have do look similar to mite bites. Nevertheless, I am still washing and bagging and plan to live a more "sanitized" life after this experience! I'll write again if I have any other updates. Thanks again for the site and for everyone's support and information. It's been an awful 10 days but it has been good to have a knowledgable resource.

It there any way you could post pictures of what your bites looked like?
Thanks! -
BBsBlow,
The pictures that I have are really not a good representation because I scratched them so severly and as my doctor said "my autoimmune system went crazy". They now look like lines of whelps rather than bites. However, initially they looked like small red bites, very similar to that of a bed bug. One set was even a line of 6 bites which convinced me it was bed bugs. The other bites were here and there and the interesting thing was that I would sometimes find them at the end of the day rather than first thing in the morning. Initially I reasoned that I had them when I got up and that my clothes irritated them making them more visible. Now I think it's possible that I carried the mite/s throughout the day and actually did have more bites at the end of the day. We've also found carpet beetles, which apparently can also bite, so it may a combination of both. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks, Victory. There was a bird's nest in front of my place, but it wasn't there for long, and it was removed a while ago. While I know for sure that I had BB bites, these newer bites don't resemble the wheels. I've been told that I have carpet beetles as well (lots of species of them!), but I haven't seen any in a few months. I'm just at my wits end as to what is biting me. They appear at all times of the day, though BB bites can as well. If you're able to post any pics that are clear, please do PM me as I'd love to compare.

I had mites, I think, and I'm pretty sure they were from rats. the mites looked like pin heads, perfectly round brownish red. very easy to crush, but it wasn't blood inside. They bit me and the bites look just like bb bites but they only lasted a few hours. My bb bites last 2 weeks on and off - frickin miserable!!

Blow, do you have any other signs that it might be bbs? Fecal spots, blood smears, etc.?

I've had blood spots before, but nothing for a few weeks, yet I get bites every other day. I check my sheets every day, but never see anything. Haven't had a wheel bite (white hard center) in maybe a month and a half? After all of the exterminations, I never saw a single bug (BB).-Blow
