Had an infestation nearly two years ago.... took several months to stop...being allergic to pesticide it was difficult...
in the past few weeks noticed some bites that had me concerned....
...during the first time i kept thinking that there must be something that the bugs would hate...something in blood or on skin... but found nothing on the internet....
coincidentally i started using a skin lotion that i had used many years ago... Corn Huskers Lotion... easy to find and cheap... $3.99 a bottle... my skin was so dry it came to mind... i noticed almost immediately that the bites on my hand got less itchy...and fewer...and wondered if it was the lotion.... so i put it all over me before bed... (my rosacea was improving, too).... every night... and within a couple of weeks no more bites no marks no itching couldn't find any bugs...

I can't say for sure this works, maybe it's just coincidental, but if it does everyone should know....perhaps there is something in it that provides a skin barrier or even something toxic to the bugs.... please post if you try it ...

Thanks, kj, this may be something for people to try who are suffering from itchy bites to see if it relieves their skin.

Bedbugs, however, are not long repelled by topical substances that we know of (and people have tried lots). That said, if you'd actually had confirmed bedbugs, we'd be the first to investigate this lotion! But since one can have bite-like skin reactions that are produced by allergies or medical conditions, and you had no other signs of bedbugs, and your reactions went away, the likeliest (and luckiest) scenario is that you didn't have bedbugs, thank goodness. Bedbugs don't go away on their own. Sadly.

    thanks for your reply....
I did have confirmed bedbugs... found and bagged them myself... that's the first time.... certified by landlord and pest control officer...
as i'm allergic to pesticide, they treated the mattresses and surfaces with a heavy duty sanitizer; we put as requested covers on all the mattresses.... they were found in both beds and the sofa... as well as a couple of other places...
the treatment helped, but some were left and I was still getting bit, though somewhat less often ... it was at this point i started using the Corn Huskers on my hands as they were so dry.... stopped getting bites on my hands.... so I spread it around on my skin.... the bites changed... saw less... well i don't have stock in the company... i like the stuff for my skin... and it could be coincidental.... but
i did have an infestation certified... perhaps it is starting up again... i need to share the info.... what if it helps some folks???... what if it really is part of getting rid of them???... what a nightmare it is...

I did a search and came up with some reviews and the ingredients on this page. One of the reviews mentioned that when a husband used to hush corn in the fields he used it as a mosquito repellent

Sorry, kj, I misunderstood. In the original post you wrote that you had an infestation two years ago and then had worrying bites again recently. I thought it was the recent bites that had not been confirmed to be bedbug bites and had gone away after a while. I'm reflexively skeptical, but no I did not think you weren't posting in good faith. In any case, I'm sure someone with an active infestation will test the lotion and report. Seems harmless enough to try. Good luck to you.
